Alpine Ski Black Diamond Helio 105

Ski sold without binding.

The Helio 105 is part of the new Helio ski touring serie signed by Black Diamond. Ultra light construction based on balsa, flax and carbonfiber to allow this 105mm waist ski to stay light on the scale and to attack any virgin faces of the mountain.

What can the Black Diamond Helio 105 ski do?

Mid way between ski touring and free-touring, the Helio 105 is clearly shaped for descent rather than ascent.  The most athletic riders can use it for ski touring but it requires some energy to lead the way, good technical skills for the conversions not to suffer too much and keep some for the descent. You might not enjoy the uphill too much but you won’t regret having a mid-fat to charge hard and fast for the downhill, attack the steepest faces and drop cornices and cliffs on the way. For the less trained riders, you will find in the Helio 105 a great free-touring ski to do quick approaches not too tiring, when you come out of the chairlift to go to the next summit and ride the closest virgin faces. This ski doesn’t absorb the terrain much and will become physical to ride when the snow becomes really hard.

Who is the Black Diamond Helio 105 ski designed for?

This quite wide model is advised to confirmed and expert riders looking for a nimble ski soft and ultra light to be mounted with free-touring bindings to skin up.

Manufacturer info :

Type of turns

  • Long turns

Shape

  • Directional (front tip)  :

The ski shape allows only a directional use.

Weight of the pair in grams

  • 2900 (175cm)

Structure - Construction

  • Carbon fibre reinforcement

Camber type

  • Classic camber  :

When the ski sits flat on the ground, the tip and the tail are in contact with it while the midsection rises above. It is this section that maximises the energy transmission towards the edge, ideal for piste skiing. It also provides a rebound which enhances energy return and pop.

Rocker type

  • Tip rocker  :

Skis are more manoeuvrable, contact points on the skis are placed in order to reduce the effective running length, which allows easier pivot and a better float.

  • Semi rockered tail  :

It improves manoeuvrability and is forgiving but remains dynamic
