Alpine Ski K2 Pinnacle 88

Ski sold without binding.

The Pinnacle line gets bigger for 2017 with a new addition, the Pinnacle 88. This new freerider comes with smaller sidecuts allowing higher performance on harder snow without compromising powder fun. Its construction is similar to the other Pinnacles and features a nanolite core made of a low density, ultra-light material and reinforced with metal around the structure to keep the ski stiff and powerful.

What can the K2 Pinnacle 88 do?

This new ski is bridging the gap between all-mountain and freeride. The moderate 88mm waist coupled with the generous rocker gives the ski plenty of float and loose forgiving feel. You can take it on hard snow or on groomed snow, you won’t have any problem with it. The ski is easy to drive and delivers a good edge grip. We were nicely surprised by the weight of the ski which is super light and therefore effortless to move around. On soft snow it’s the same fun, the rocker gives a good lift on pow and doesn’t require too much speed to stay afloat. You should try, it’s addictive. The 88mm waist ensures support in difficult conditions and doesn’t feel too bulky when you need agility. Obviously, you cannot compare it with a fat freeride ski waisted over 100mm but it holds its own and doesn’t disappoint. It is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a one-ski quiver.

Who is the K2 Pinnacle 88 designed for?

We recommend it to freeriders with an intermediate and advanced level who want versatility and fun from their skis. Even expert skiers should find it entertaining and easy to play with. It’s like a big toy suited for all-terrain shred.

Structure - Construction

  • Konic Technology  : Revolutionary core design that redistributes weight to the ski's perimeter providing power, strength and stability directly over the edge for performance, while reducing swing-weight from the center and extremities for added ease and control.
  • Fir core  :

Wood cores have been used in the ski industry for ages. They deliver stability and rebound while killing vibrations. They're extremely durable.

  • Metal Laminate Technology  :

Built with two sheets of lightweight Titanal running the length of the ski, metal-laminate skis are the highest performing and most complex construction available from K2. Built from the base up, a metal laminate construction consists of alternating layers of fiberglass and Titanal above and below the wood core. Metal-laminates provide dampened, accurate, unshakable performance ideal for expert-level skiers.

  • Nanolite technology  :

Super lightweight, low-density, aerospace grade composite

  • Triaxial braiding  :

Triaxial braiding consists of braiding fiberglass around a wood core to provide torsional rigidity for added control. Developed in 1988 by K2 engineers, the patented triaxial braiding machine interlocks strands of fiberglass around a milled wood core. This unique method produces skis with great torsional strength, that maintains the lively flex patterns of the wood core.

Camber type

  • Classic camber  :

When the ski sits flat on the ground, the tip and the tail are in contact with it while the midsection rises above. It is this section that maximises the energy transmission towards the edge, ideal for piste skiing. It also provides a rebound which enhances energy return and pop.

  • All-Terrain Rocker  :

All-Terrain Rocker features an elevated tip for variable and soft snow performance, as well as camber underfoot for power, energy, and edge-hold in firmer conditions.

Simply put, All-Terrain Rocker offers versatility and ease in all snow conditions.

Rocker type

  • Tip and tail rocker  :

Full length rocker perfect for surfing powder. It floats easily and ensures smooth and effortless turns. Landings are easier too.

  • Symmetrical Taper  :

A symmetrical ski has a switch arc that is equivalent to its forward arc. To maximize performance, the mounting location is in the absolute center of the ski.
