If you are into ski touring you are on the right page. Here is the Wayback 96 from K2, a freetouring ski with a maple and paulownia woodcore ensuring optimal lightweight and reactivity. The ski is also reinforced with carbon for added stability. K2 released that ski last year but changed the graphics for 2017. It features a dual rocker and sidecuts that mirror the previous version. The rockers make the ski extremely agile with an easy pivot and more fluidity throughout the turns. It is the kind of ski that makes touring within reach, you should try!

What can the K2 Wayback 96 do?

The Wayback 96, as a good touring ski, is very light and efficient for the uphill parts of your tour. It’s a good ski, it feels reliable and the 96mm platform provides solid support through the ascents. You get up the peak pretty easily and the ski doesn’t feel too bulky when it comes to kick-turning. On the descent, same story. The ski behaves and feels good even with a solid edge control even on crud snow. Its rocker maximises floatation and makes the ski easy to control on the deep. It also gives it tons of breaking power for making your way through rough conditions. This turns the ski into smooth gliding object, very enjoyable and fun. It’s a safe pick if you tend to ride in varying conditions.

Who is the K2 Wayback 96 designed for?

Excellent freetouring ski, best suited for intermediate and advanced skiers who want a ski that performs both up and downhill. It feels consistent and it’s easy to manage.

Structure - Construction

  • Carbon Web  :

The Mod structure is wrapped by carbon fiber. The carbon stringers are oriented with a precise angle in order to increase resistance to torsion on the secondary core. That delivers a lighter ski that will stay solid against torsion where it's needed.

  • Hybritech sidewalls  :

This wider-waisted construction combines the accuracy and power performance of sidewall underfoot with the lightweight and smooth turn initiation of cap construction. Offered exclusively on the Side series, Hybritech makes skis strong, accurate and powerful underfoot, while maintaining smooth initiation and easy exits from turns.

  • Paulownia/Maple core

Rocker - Camber

  • All-Terrain Rocker  :

All-Terrain Rocker features an elevated tip for variable and soft snow performance, as well as camber underfoot for power, energy, and edge-hold in firmer conditions.

Simply put, All-Terrain Rocker offers versatility and ease in all snow conditions.

  • Tip and tail holes  :

All Adventure skis come with holes drilled in the tip and tail that facilitate building a quick, solid rescue sled, or the construction of a ski anchor. The holes come with plugs that can be removed with a simple twist of a flat head screwdriver. These holes also function as skin attachment points for our new skins.

  • Tip and Tail rivets  :

K2 introduced tip and tail rivets 7 years ago on the Factory Series skis. They were functionally developed for additional protection, reinforcing the tip and tail of the ski against delamination. Although function is still the primary purpose, K2 has evolved the rivets and plates into stylized components.

  • Tapered Tip and tail  :

The widest point of the tip and tail is further back on the ski, which reduces the weight of the tip and the resistance of it in soft snow.
