Alpine Ski Salomon Q98

Ski sold without binding.

The Q series returns for the joy of us all. You won’t have any new skis in it though, the range is so complete there was no need to expand it anymore.
The Q98 is for skiers who have a bias towards freeriding but who don’t want to give up on piste performance.

What can the Salomon Q98 do?

The Q98 looks a lot like a  freerider and acts like one. Its generous 97mm underfoot platform delivers powder enjoyment enhanced by the lightweight construction and honeycomb structured tip. The ski floats on the deep as if it was easy and manoeuvers through it with a great nimble feel thanks to the 5-point sidecuts.
But where the Q98 surprised us most was on the hardpack. Despite its width and shape the ski grips hard and feels pretty responsive and reliable on piste. This isn’t very common for a freerider!

Who is the Salomon Q98 designed for?

This is a ski made for advanced powder-oriented skiers looking for something versatile that can handle all types of snow when conditions aren’t at their best. The ski is agile and feels powerful and supportive on steep, tracked out slopes but can also be smooth and nimble on piste.
This is a really nice quiver highly recommended if you can have only one pair of skis to ski everywhere.

What are the main assets of the Salomon Q98 ?

High versatility
Grip and agility on piste
Effortless floatation

Type of turns

  • Long turns

Shape

  • Directional (front tip)  :

The ski shape allows only a directional use.

Weight of the pair in grams

  • 3680 en180cm

Structure - Construction

  • 100% wood core from tip to tail  :

Provides optimum stability and powerful rebounce. Better contact ski/snow and reduces vibrations.

  • Semi-Sandwich  :

Combination of ABS sidewalls under the foot with monocoque construction by the tip and the tail for a smoother ski/snow contact, a more forgiving feel and easier turns.

  • Honeycomb structured tips  :

Tips are ultralight and offer a better floatability. Less swing weight for added manoeuverability et more control. Better dampening and durability.

Camber type

  • Classic camber  :

When the ski sits flat on the ground, the tip and the tail are in contact with it while the midsection rises above. It is this section that maximises the energy transmission towards the edge, ideal for piste skiing. It also provides a rebound which enhances energy return and pop.

Technology

  • Utility Rocker  :

Optimal float and control paired with an excellent absorbtion of terrain changes

Rocker type

  • Tip rocker  :

Skis are more manoeuvrable, contact points on the skis are placed in order to reduce the effective running length, which allows easier pivot and a better float.

Various

  • Thicker edges  :

For a longer durability and stronger against impacts.

  • Hook Free  :

Tapered shape, 5 point sidecuts, allows easier turn initiations on soft snow, tip and tail don't catch snow. The tip vibrates less.
