Alpine Ski Salomon X Drive 8.8 FS n

Ski sold without binding.

The X Drive series belongs to Salomon’s All-Mountain Frontside range. The skis are made to deliver incredible on-piste performance while offering off-piste opportunities.  The X Drive 8.8 FS, to make things simple, is the most powerful X Drive in the series.

What can the Salomon X-Drive 8.8 FS do?

If we had to answer with one word it would be everything. The X Drive 8.8 is an all-mountain quiver that carves groomers with ease and surfes powder like a lord.  It features a full sandwich construction that delivers an incredible smooth feel while its low density woodcore coupled with the Chassis X technology and a carbon/polyamid reinforcement provide tons of stability and responsiveness.  And if you look for predictability and floatation, you can rely on the honeycomb rockered tip that will keep you afloat effortlessly.

Who is the Salomon X-Drive 8.8 FS designed for?

The X Drive 8.8 was designed for demanding skiers looking for performance and liveliness. The ski requires solid skills (advanced or expert) to be managed.  It is extremely precise and highly versatile with its 88mm at the waist providing fast edge transfers and support. No need to worry about the conditions anymore, the X Drive 8.8 plows through anything that comes across!

Structure - Construction

  • Sandwich sidewalls  :

Sandwich sidewalls for extraordinary smooth ski/snow contact and great terrain adaptation. A MUST for Park and Pipe and performance proven in the race Milieu! Laminated sandwich sidewall construction enables to combine appropriate material layers for targeted performance.

  • Basalt layer  :

Used in building highways throughout the world, a Basalt layer in the ski provides outstanding dampening and vibration resistance.

  • 100% wood core from tip to tail  :

Provides optimum stability and powerful rebounce. Better contact ski/snow and reduces vibrations.

  • Low density woodcore  :

The composite core density is lower which makes it 20% lighter without making it weaker.

  • Progressive Transfer Pads  :

Integrated elastomeric pads on each end of the X Chassis.

More fluidity through energy transfers toward the edges, better progressive feel and more chatter dampening.

  • RKS (Stabilisation du Rocker)  :

Fiber composite reinforcement that allows easy and precise turns

  • Honeycomb structured tips  :

Tips are ultralight and offer a better floatability. Less swing weight for added manoeuverability et more control. Better dampening and durability.

Camber type

  • Classic camber  :

When the ski sits flat on the ground, the tip and the tail are in contact with it while the midsection rises above. It is this section that maximises the energy transmission towards the edge, ideal for piste skiing. It also provides a rebound which enhances energy return and pop.

  • All-Terrain Rocker 2.0  :

    Absorption of terrain variations

70% of the ski is in contact with the snow when it sits flat on the ground. 90% of it is in contact with the snow when it is on the edges.

Rocker type

  • Tip rocker  :

Skis are more manoeuvrable, contact points on the skis are placed in order to reduce the effective running length, which allows easier pivot and a better float.

  • Chassis X  :

Carbon diagonal reinforcement in the medial part of the ski. That increases torsional stiffness, grip and stability.

  • Tip protector  :

Carbon reinforcement increasing the reactivity and the stiffness in torsion without compromising the weight of the ski.

  • Flat tail  :

A flat tail design made for powerful and stable turn completion in deep powder.

Great skis - very happy with them and with the price and service from Glisshop.

Bought these on the Ski Club of Great Britain recommendation for an all mountain ski, and I am very pleased with them. They are noticeably better than my previous skis in the powder and on bumps, and very nearly as good for fast on piste skiing. The edges hold well on hard snow too. Would support the Ski Club recommendation. Faultless service from Glisshop too. displays only reviews from customers who ordered the product on its website.
