Alpine Ski Volkl VTA 88

Ski sold without binding.

Ski touring is getting really popular and counts number of new riders every year. For this reason, manufacturers keep improving their equipment and we are very pleased to have Volkl’s line of touring skis on our shelves this winter. The VTA series incoportates light and modern skis derived in different widths. One of their key features is the Ice-Off coating preventing the snow from sticking to the topsheet.

What can the Volkl VTA 88 touring ski do?

With an 88mm waist, the VTA 88 is a well balanced touring ski as in it performs well for climbing or for skiing downhill. Weighing only 1260g in 170cm, the ski is light, very light even considering its width. But let’s forget about the figures, this isn’t the best way to review a ski is it. On the snow, the VTA 88 turns out to be pretty compact and discrete. You don’t feel it much and its versatile waist width makes it good at following any tracks in front of you. The traditional camber delivers a reinsuring grip during dangerous crossings or steep sections, especially when the snow’s really icy. On the downhill the ski performs just as well. The rockered tip keeps it afloat pretty naturally and efficiently absorbs unexpected terrain changes. It feels really good and not that weak, it’s a good all-rounder that deals with fresh pow and chopped up snow surprisingly well.

Who is the Volkl VTA 88 touring ski designed for?

We recommend this light touring ski to advanced and sporty skiers looking for a true multitasker. Quick ascents, fantastic descents, precision on groomed snow and effortless manoeuverability on pow, the VTA 88 is going to be hard to beat. Suitable for one-day tours or for week trips, you can’t go wrong with this one.

Manufacturer info :

Touring ski category

  • Allround Touring  :

Designed for experienced tourers. The ski is pretty narrow and light which makes climbing with skins easier and less tiring. Touring skis can also perform well on the downhill regardless of the type of snow.

Type of turns

  • Long turns

Shape

  • Directional (front tip)  :

The ski shape allows only a directional use.

Structure - Construction

  • Power Shell

Camber type

  • Classic camber  :

When the ski sits flat on the ground, the tip and the tail are in contact with it while the midsection rises above. It is this section that maximises the energy transmission towards the edge, ideal for piste skiing. It also provides a rebound which enhances energy return and pop.

Technology

  • Tip-Rocker  :

The ski has a variable edge length in the shovel area. The rocker height is moderate. The variable edge length in the shovel area makes the ski easier to turn. The cambered area underneath the foot and at the tail provides control and support for novices and intermediates.

Rocker type

  • Tip rocker  :

Skis are more manoeuvrable, contact points on the skis are placed in order to reduce the effective running length, which allows easier pivot and a better float.
