Ski mittens
If you prefer ski mittens to gloves, you're in the right place!
Ski mitts are more and more popular. Whether you're a skier or a snowboarder, mittens are known to be warmer than gloves and much more comfortable. Thay make things harder when you need to seize something as you don't have all your fingers available, but that's what makes them warmer too. Moreover, innovative designs like the lobster mitt (or 3-finger mitt) allow for easier grasping without sacrificing heat retention. How to choose your mittens according to your practice?
Each skiing or snowboarding practice comes with its own constraints, dangers, and weather conditions. Simply put, an amateur skier spending his holidays on the slopes won’t require the same level of technicity and protection as the freeride expert who’s tackling the highest peaks. And so, the first question you should ask yourself is: what are my needs? A casual rider wille make a safet bet with a good value-for-money mitt, while off-piste and high-mountain enthusiasts should focus on highly-warm and waterproof models. Giant Slalom specialists for their part will prefer reinforced pairs for enhanced grip and protection.
What are the features of each ski mitten?
Different mittens depending on the season:
Between a cold morning at 4,000m high in early February and a nice spring afternoon on the slopes, your insulation needs will be very different so plan ahead with mittens suited to the conditions you’ll face in your next sessions. To help you see things clearer, the insulation level of each mitten is indicated by a warmth index that goes from 1 to 5.
High-end materials for more performances:
Depending on your needs and budget, we invite you to look at the more advanced materials and technologies. Primaloft®, wool or down insulation, highly breathable and waterproof Gore-Tex® membrane, external leather layer for more durability, these are as many options that will allow you to enjoy the slopes longer than ever before and push back your limits!
The ‘lobster’ or ‘three-finger’ mittens:
Mid-way between ski gloves and classic mittens, the ‘lobsters’ come with a three-part cut-out that lets you enjoy both the mittens’ thermal comfort and the gloves’ freedom of movement.
Ski mittens with removable glove liners:
Warm and comfortable, the ski mittens are however a bit less practical since you can’t move all your fingers separately. That’s why some models are fitted with removable under gloves that allow you to move more freely to do more precise gestures (tighten your boots, put on your helmet, goggles, etc.). The under gloves are compatibles with touch-screens so you can check up your phone without freezing your fingers!
Pocket warmer zips to keep you warm:
If you are particularly sensitive to cold temperatures, these mittens feature a small zipped pocket on the back of the hand where you can fit a hand warmer (sold separately) to warm you up during the coldest days! You’ll find pocket warmers on our dedicated page. And for a top-notch comfort, we’ve even got heated mittens with Lithium batteries, like the Power Mittens from Therm-IC.
