Shopping guide for cross country ski poles for children:

Looking through the whole range of cross country skis for your young skier, but you don't know which pole is best suited to them? Don't worry because this shopping guide will come to your rescue.

Which ski pole matches your child's level of experience?

Just as with adult ski poles, kids ski poles are of a different quality depending on the range you choose. And because children also have particular needs, we decided to create three categories for parents to navigate around.

So, for youngsters who are just starting out with cross country skiing or who just do it for fun, the "Leisure" category will fit perfectly. The ski poles shown here are very robust and resistant to falls. They're perfect for discovering that first gliding sensation.

The "Sports" category is perfectly suited to regular young skiers and new competitors. They're solid enough to resist falls when enjoying yourself going downhill, but are made of a lighter and more rigid material for a ski pole that's more pleasant when skiing. They are created according to the body types of young skiers and their rigidity is not at all dangerous for those who are still learning.

Next we have the Race/Expert category. Just as with the adult ski poles, these poles have an incomparable lightness and the best level of momentum. These will no doubt be the choice of young competitors. However, you must be careful because although carbon fibre is a sturdy material it is not unbreakable. Shocks can actually damage or break a carbon fibre cross country ski pole.

What size cross country ski pole should you choose?

The size of a cross country ski pole is determined by the technique that you wish to follow. Whether skate skiing or classic: the length is not the same.

In skate skiing the ski pole should be 20 cm shorter than the skier's height. So visually it should reach chin height. For a more exact size, you can multiply the young skier's height by 0.89.

In classic skiing, choose a ski pole which is 30 cm shorter than the skiers height. They should reach around shoulder height then. You can also multiply the skier's height by 0.83.
