Elan Ripstick 2017

Alpine Ski Elan RipStick 96

When Elan team gets to work it rains skis all over the place in no time. The new Rip Stick 96, of the 2016-2017 collection, is a freeride ski with only 96mm on the waist and a true all-mountain temper. The new wood core is reinforced on the whole length with carbon tubes to bring a crazy liveliness while saving weight.

What can the Elan Rip Stick 96 ski do?

The Rip Stick 96 is a bit the magic ski of the wizard Elan, able to face any snow conditions and attack snowy steep. No matter if they are powder-filled or groomed, thanks to its Amphibio shape and its tip rocker, the Rip Stick 96 plays with agility on every faces of the mountain. It will keep you afloat in the powder where you can smear beautiful lines in freeride. This snappy ski is also a great carver on-piste where the tail provides a really good kick out of turns and a stunning stability. We have to admit that the tip and tail Vapor Tip inserts deliver an amazing absorption and erase vibrations. The glide becomes fluid and super fun on all technical terrains.

Who is the Elan Rip Stick 96 ski designed for?

We advise this freeride ski to confirmed and expert riders seeking a versatile ski wide enough to play on every playgrounds and in any snow conditions, from the freshest to the hardest snow and everything in between. The Rip Stick 96 is an amazing everyday ski.

Structure - Construction

  • Amphibio  :

The Amphibio technology is a breakthrough. A trend-setter, never a follower. Aware of possible limitations of fully rockered skis, Elan has made a step further and developed skis without the need to compromise between edge grip or easy turning. Rocker ensures full edge contact, but without full edge grip. Amphibio, on the other hand, features a cambered and a rockered edge. The botom ski with full edge contact ensures optimal edge grip, while the upper ski offers partial edge contact for easy turning.

Regular rocker profile provides easy turning but lacks full edge grip on steep and icy terrain due to shorter edge contact. Amphibio profile has different profiles of inner and outside edges that deliver no compromise between edge grip and easy turning. Bottom ski in the turn has full edge contact and provides full edge grip. Upper ski in the turn has partial edge contact and provides easy turning.

  • SST Sidewalls  :

Sidewall Construction features a vertically placed ABS material above the edges from tip to tail of the ski. Sidewall offers direct power transmission from skier foot to the edge for control and stability at speeds and provides acceleration out of the turns.

  • Fiberglass  :

Positioned either above or below the ski core, the Fibreglass reinforcement optimizes the flex pattern and enhances torsional stiffness.

  • Vaportip inserts  :

Vaportip inserts are made of advanced composite materials and integrated to the ski core in the tip and tail areas. Thses inserts help reducing the weight and the vibrations and they enhance stability for a more comfortable ride in difficult conditions.

Camber type

  • Classic camber  :

When the ski sits flat on the ground, the tip and the tail are in contact with it while the midsection rises above. It is this section that maximises the energy transmission towards the edge, ideal for piste skiing. It also provides a rebound which enhances energy return and pop.

Rocker type

  • Tip and tail rocker  :

Full length rocker perfect for surfing powder. It floats easily and ensures smooth and effortless turns. Landings are easier too.

Binding technologies

  • Anti Friction Device AFD  :

All Marker bindings are equipped with a moveable AFD (anti friction device) and therefore guarantee a highly precise release almost entirely unhindered by dirt, snow and ice! Individual adjustment of the AFD to the area of application ensures perfect functionality - from racing, for children’s bindings or on ski tours.

  • Hollow Linkage Heel  :

The heel was also redesigned from the ground up to guarantee optimal retention for all types of alpine and touring soles. The aluminium hollow axle saves on weight and maximizes the torsional stiffness. This very robust heel construction is best suited for the most strenuous of requirements.

  • Triple Pivot Light  :

The newly designed, compact toe features a horizontally inserted spring. Together with the gliding plate the gliding elements integrated into the sole plates ensure a very precise release behaviour which is comparable to all other Marker bindings. Why should tourers and freestylers make any compromises? An aluminium bridge on the top provides additional support without adding any extra weight.
