Alpine Ski Faction Prodigy

The Prodigy comes back again this year with few upgrades. Faction engineer redesigned the sidecut by reducing the tips and the waist and increasing the rocker. We discover the new shape with the dual-radius sidecut to boost the responsive feel of this twin freeride ski to the maximum. Faction even revisited the classic camber of the Prodigy to go down to 2mm underfoot. It will lose a bit of grip on really hard snow but it will gain on buoyancy and handiness in deep, even better with a 96mm waist.

What can the Faction Prodigy ski do?

With its fat sidecut and its new playful shape, the Prodigy is a great powder ski. You can ride as fast as you want on any powder-filled steeps, its rocker make it float in deep. Faction offers here a great weapon to slalom in the forest between the trees, drop cliffs like kickers and gun down the hill. You can eventually mount some ski touring bindings on it to seek remote spots and ride virgin faces. The Prodigy can adapt to every terrains, it has a good edge hold on the slopes and great abilities on hard snow that make it super versatile.

Who is the Faction Prodigy ski designed for?

This freeride ski is designed for intermediate to expert skiers looking to invest in a super fun versatile ski powder orientated.

Shape

  • Bidirectional (twin tip)  :

The ski shape allows to ski forward or backward.

Weight of the pair in grams

  • 4000 en 178 cm

Structure - Construction

  • Dual Radius Sidecuts  :

Borrowed from world cup race skis, two different radius on the one ski- a tighter radius forward of the boot center coupled with a 20% larger sidecut behind- lets us increase the edge-to-edge responsiveness so you can carve short turns whilst retaining high speed stability and control through the tail of the ski.

  • Poplar & Ash Core  :

A poplar core with ash "stringers" is used for their complimentary characteristics of dampness and responsiveness. Used on the bulk of the skis, this together with fiberglass above and below the core provide a smooth feel and control in all snow conditions.

  • Sandwich Construction  :

    Sandwich construction

  • Transition zone technology  :

Our "Blended Transition Zones" use complex curve geometries where both positive/negative sidecut and where rocker/camber meet to make turn initiation fluid yet the whole ski more stable controllable in all conditions.

Camber type

  • Classic camber  :

When the ski sits flat on the ground, the tip and the tail are in contact with it while the midsection rises above. It is this section that maximises the energy transmission towards the edge, ideal for piste skiing. It also provides a rebound which enhances energy return and pop.

Technology

  • 10/200mm Tip Rocker  :

Skis featuring a rockered tip and a traditional or flat camber float better on soft snow and deliver goof performance on groomers.

    10mm rise on a 200mm length.

  • 2mm Camber  :

Easy turn initiation on the slope, added reactivity off piste

  • 5/100mm tail rocker  :

The Rocker, or reverse camber, enhances powder floatation thanks to a bigger surface of contact with the snow. By combining different degrees of rocker with a flat or normal camber, powder performance is improved while piste performance isn't affected.

    5mm rocker rising on 100mm

Rocker type

  • Tip and tail rocker  :

Full length rocker perfect for surfing powder. It floats easily and ensures smooth and effortless turns. Landings are easier too.

Various

  • Micro-Cap Protection  :

In continuing their efforts to improve chip-resistance in their skis, Faction has incorporated a ‘micro’ cap where the topsheet meets the sidewall on their sandwich construction skis. Available on most models.

  • Ptex-4000 die-cut bases  :

Very High density base for an excellent glide performance, wax retention, and resistance to abrasion.

  • Hardened Topsheets

Binding technologies

  • Anti Friction Device AFD  :

All Marker bindings are equipped with a moveable AFD (anti friction device) and therefore guarantee a highly precise release almost entirely unhindered by dirt, snow and ice! Individual adjustment of the AFD to the area of application ensures perfect functionality - from racing, for children’s bindings or on ski tours.

  • Compact Heel  :

A statement of efficiency - with the usual perfect MARKER release properties and the perfect mix of great design, lightness and excellent functionality. This heel technology is perfect for beginners and occasional skiers due to the release properties and is an excellent value.

  • Triple Pivot Light  :

The compact toe features a horizontally inserted spring. Together with the gliding plate the gliding elements integrated into the sole holders ensure a very precise release behaviour which is comparable to all other MARKER bindings. Why should touring skiers and freestylers accept any compromises? An aluminium bridge on the top provides additional support without adding any extra weight.
