Faction Soma 2017

Alpine Ski Faction Soma

This year Faction totally redesigned the Soma, their twin tip all-mountain ski. Its new double rocker shape offers a new sidecut with a 90mm waist that gives the ski a responsive feel. The new camber goes from 5 to 2mm underfoot  in order to gain even more handiness. Faction also boosted the tip rocker to make you float in deep.

What can the Faction Soma ski do?

This new Soma delivers an incredible versatility. You can engage on any terrain, on the slopes the classic camber offers a great grip. This all-mountain ski is really playful and turns on the spot. You can cruise or gun down the hill, short turns, long curves the Soma does it all. Its innovating dual-radius sidecut and its rockers provide easy turn initiation and stability at high speeds. You can jump in the powder at any time the ski will keep its liveliness. The Faction Soma floats in deep thanks to its big tip rocker. You will have a blast with this all-mountain ski.

Who is the Faction Soma designed for?

Shape

  • Bidirectional (twin tip)  :

The ski shape allows to ski forward or backward.

Weight of the pair in grams

Structure - Construction

  • CAP Construction  :

CAP construction with a poplar-ash wood core combined to give lightweight, durable and consistent performance in a more price-conscious ski

  • Dual Radius Sidecuts  :

Borrowed from world cup race skis, two different radius on the one ski- a tighter radius forward of the boot center coupled with a 20% larger sidecut behind- lets us increase the edge-to-edge responsiveness so you can carve short turns whilst retaining high speed stability and control through the tail of the ski.

  • Poplar & Ash Core  :

A poplar core with ash "stringers" is used for their complimentary characteristics of dampness and responsiveness. Used on the bulk of the skis, this together with fiberglass above and below the core provide a smooth feel and control in all snow conditions.

  • Transition zone technology  :

Our "Blended Transition Zones" use complex curve geometries where both positive/negative sidecut and where rocker/camber meet to make turn initiation fluid yet the whole ski more stable controllable in all conditions.

Camber type

  • Classic camber  :

When the ski sits flat on the ground, the tip and the tail are in contact with it while the midsection rises above. It is this section that maximises the energy transmission towards the edge, ideal for piste skiing. It also provides a rebound which enhances energy return and pop.

Technology

  • 10/200mm Tip Rocker  :

Skis featuring a rockered tip and a traditional or flat camber float better on soft snow and deliver goof performance on groomers.

    10mm rise on a 200mm length.

  • 2mm Camber  :

Easy turn initiation on the slope, added reactivity off piste

  • 5/100mm tail rocker  :

The Rocker, or reverse camber, enhances powder floatation thanks to a bigger surface of contact with the snow. By combining different degrees of rocker with a flat or normal camber, powder performance is improved while piste performance isn't affected.

    5mm rocker rising on 100mm

Rocker type

  • Tip and tail rocker  :

Full length rocker perfect for surfing powder. It floats easily and ensures smooth and effortless turns. Landings are easier too.

Various

  • Ptex-4000 die-cut bases  :

Very High density base for an excellent glide performance, wax retention, and resistance to abrasion.

  • Hardened Topsheets

Binding technologies

  • Anti Friction Device AFD  :

All Marker bindings are equipped with a moveable AFD (anti friction device) and therefore guarantee a highly precise release almost entirely unhindered by dirt, snow and ice! Individual adjustment of the AFD to the area of application ensures perfect functionality - from racing, for children’s bindings or on ski tours.

  • Compact Heel  :

A statement of efficiency - with the usual perfect MARKER release properties and the perfect mix of great design, lightness and excellent functionality. This heel technology is perfect for beginners and occasional skiers due to the release properties and is an excellent value.

  • Triple Pivot Light  :

The compact toe features a horizontally inserted spring. Together with the gliding plate the gliding elements integrated into the sole holders ensure a very precise release behaviour which is comparable to all other MARKER bindings. Why should touring skiers and freestylers accept any compromises? An aluminium bridge on the top provides additional support without adding any extra weight.
