Alpine Ski K2 AMP Rictor 90 XTI MXC

If you need a ski that bridges the gap between the all-mountain and freeride categories, that would have to be the AMP Rictor XTI. Indeed, this little gem combines the versatility and the agility of a great all-mountainer with the power and the floatation of a freerider. A mixture that works perfectly thanks to a nice rockered tip, a flat tail and a 90mm waist. Top this up with a poplar/paulownia/maple core, add a bit of titanal for added character, and you get one of the best mountain weapon ever!

What our testers say : Don't get scared by the look of it, the Rictor is a ski that's pretty easy to steer and control. Its size and sidecuts with a 18m radius makes the ski better through long turns although if you push enough on your legs you'll manage to reduce that radius without struggling too much. The ski is just wide enough to float pow with ease without lacking of grip on harder snow. It's a pretty stiff ski though and advanced skiers who like to ski fast should get on well with it.

Structure - Construction

  • AT Rox Technology  :

    Core: Strength and Structure

A K2 ski is designed with a primary core and structural layers that determine the flex along the entire length of the ski.

    MOD: Suspension

Added on top of the ski’s primary core is a secondary core called the MOD structure, which essentially acts independently as a suspension system, quieting the ride of the ski. The key is that the MOD structure does not change the overall flex of the ski.

    Carbon Web: Increased Edge Hold

A raised X-shaped pattern has been added to specific regions of the MOD structure to support a Carbon Web. This X-shaped carbon support is furthest from the core to increase torsional rigidity, for greater edge-hold and grip. It works independently of the primary core so the overall longitudinal flex is unchanged.

Speed Rocker: Effortless Initiation and Accuracy

The addition of Speed Rocker or All-Terrain Rocker makes turns effortless with greater accuracy and edge hold.

  • Hybritech sidewalls  :

This wider-waisted construction combines the accuracy and power performance of sidewall underfoot with the lightweight and smooth turn initiation of cap construction. Offered exclusively on the Side series, Hybritech makes skis strong, accurate and powerful underfoot, while maintaining smooth initiation and easy exits from turns.

  • Poplar/Paulownia/Maple core  :

Wood cores have been used in the ski industry for ages. They deliver stability and rebound while killing vibrations. They're extremely durable.

  • Metal Laminate Technology  :

Built with two sheets of lightweight Titanal running the length of the ski, metal-laminate skis are the highest performing and most complex construction available from K2. Built from the base up, a metal laminate construction consists of alternating layers of fiberglass and Titanal above and below the wood core. Metal-laminates provide dampened, accurate, unshakable performance ideal for expert-level skiers.

Camber type

  • Classic camber  :

When the ski sits flat on the ground, the tip and the tail are in contact with it while the midsection rises above. It is this section that maximises the energy transmission towards the edge, ideal for piste skiing. It also provides a rebound which enhances energy return and pop.

  • All-Terrain Rocker  :

All-Terrain Rocker features an elevated tip for variable and soft snow performance, as well as camber underfoot for power, energy, and edge-hold in firmer conditions.

Simply put, All-Terrain Rocker offers versatility and ease in all snow conditions.

Rocker type

  • Tip rocker  :

Skis are more manoeuvrable, contact points on the skis are placed in order to reduce the effective running length, which allows easier pivot and a better float.

  • K2/Marker MXC System  :

The brand new binding system K2/Marker MXC is 54% wider than the MX system and features the Triple Pivot toe and the Inter Pivot heel, which allows to gain precision and control with wide-waisted all-mountain skis. The MXC binding system features zinc supports running all the way to the edge of the ski which enhances the energy transfers and the edge grip. On top of being wider, this binding is 10% lighter thanks to a 12% lower height.

  • Powder Tip  :

Designed to be more predictable in soft snow conditions, these tips are designed to strike the perfect balance of maximizing float while reducing tip deflection. These tips are designed with a gentle arc and transition into the sidecut of the ski.

  • Tapered Tip  :

The widest point of the tip is further back on the ski, which reduces the weight of the tip and the resistance of it in soft snow.
