Alpine Ski K2 Domain

K2 has been making freestyle skis for years and became an expert at doing so long time before other brands. Park, pipe or jib, their skis deliver solid performance and many freestylers would fight to get a pair of them.

What can the K2 Domain do?

Everyone who tried the Domain returned with a smile stuck on their face. ‘Extraordinary’ or ‘incredible’ were the only words they managed to mumble in between two breathes. The Domain is uber flexible and playful, skiers will feel comfortable on it in seconds and will fill in their bag of tricks in days. On rails, the ski is balanced and quite forgiving. It is light as well and the Jib rocker makes the ski easy to play with. On kickers, same story. The ski has got pop and will take you higher than you’ve been before, enabling you to add a few spins in your tricks. Its construction is strong and durable, the 90mm waist provides fast edge to edge transfers and the twin tip shape makes it totally park friendly. The Domain is a serious freestyle gun suited for all park rats out there.

Who is the K2 Domain designed for?

With this ski, K2 aims for intermediate and advanced skiers looking for a pure freestyle player, agile, playful and poppy.

What are the main assets of the K2 Domain?

Structure - Construction

  • Poplar core  :

K2's Adventure skis use an Aspen/Paulownia blend core. Lower-density Aspen and even lighter-weight Paulownia allow us to reduce the weight that results from the added surface area of wider skis. In addition, the Bio Core is 15% lighter than the fir/aspen blend traditional in our all-mountain skis.

  • Triaxial braiding  :

Triaxial braiding consists of braiding fiberglass around a wood core to provide torsional rigidity for added control. Developed in 1988 by K2 engineers, the patented triaxial braiding machine interlocks strands of fiberglass around a milled wood core. This unique method produces skis with great torsional strength, that maintains the lively flex patterns of the wood core.

  • TwinTech  :

This new Twin Tip specific construction process increases the durability of sidewall skis. A traditional sidewall construction produces a 90 degree angle where the top material and sidewall meet. The Twin Tech construction actually rolls the top material into the sidewall reducing the angle that is prone to abuse.

Camber type

  • Classic camber  :

When the ski sits flat on the ground, the tip and the tail are in contact with it while the midsection rises above. It is this section that maximises the energy transmission towards the edge, ideal for piste skiing. It also provides a rebound which enhances energy return and pop.

  • Jib Rocker  :

Featuring an elevated tip and tail with zero camber underfoot, Jib Rocker offers the best blend of playfulness for butters and surface tricks combined with enhanced pop for unmatched ollie power.

Simply put, Jib Rocker is designed for ollies, butters, and predictable pop.

Rocker type

  • Tip and tail rocker  :

Full length rocker perfect for surfing powder. It floats easily and ensures smooth and effortless turns. Landings are easier too.

  • Park specific flex
  • Tip and Tail rivets  :

K2 introduced tip and tail rivets 7 years ago on the Factory Series skis. They were functionally developed for additional protection, reinforcing the tip and tail of the ski against delamination. Although function is still the primary purpose, K2 has evolved the rivets and plates into stylized components.

  • Swap Base  :

The bases of these skis can come in two different color ways, depending of how the colors are swapped on the base. This gives two looks to the same ski, and ensures you are not rocking the exact same pair as your buddy who just picked up the same pair of skis.

Binding technologies

  • Anti Friction Device AFD  :

All Marker bindings are equipped with a moveable AFD (anti friction device) and therefore guarantee a highly precise release almost entirely unhindered by dirt, snow and ice! Individual adjustment of the AFD to the area of application ensures perfect functionality - from racing, for children’s bindings or on ski tours.

  • Compact Heel
  • Triple Pivot Light  :

The newly designed, compact toe features a horizontally inserted spring. Together with the gliding plate the gliding elements integrated into the sole plates ensure a very precise release behaviour which is comparable to all other Marker bindings. Why should tourers and freestylers make any compromises? An aluminium bridge on the top provides additional support without adding any extra weight.

I wanted a good all mountain type ski and the Domain definitely delivers, Its super light, very flexible and a seriously fun ski to ride! The width gives you great stability and I felt comfortable on it immediately. However, the ski does seem to struggle a little bit with speed, It doesn't charge all that hard which for me, being a more casual style rider, is fine but could be a problem for harder charging riders. The ski can handle some powder and loose snow and I've had a lot of fun on it riding off piste, however it can get bogged down and doesn't have a great deal of float so may struggle in really deep powder. Overall it's a great ski and is a lot of fun, I'm an intermediate-advanced rider and I love them! displays only reviews from customers who ordered the product on its website.
