Alpine Ski K2 iKonic 85 TI

K2 are unveiling their new all-mountain range which they named the iKonic series. The skis have inheritated of the best features from their predecessors and blend them together to deliver smooth performance through the whole mountain.
The K2 iKonic 85Ti is the widest iKonic skis and comes with a waist at 85mm.

What can the K2 iKonic 85 Ti do?

The K2 iKonic 85 Ti is the definition of an all mountain ski. Featuring the K2 Konic technology offering a better weight distribution, with a thinner and lighter core in its center, getting thicker and stronger by the edges, the ski is durable, smooth and powerful. Hard to tell where the ski works best though as it feels home pretty much anywhere in the mountain. It grips on hard snow like a world cup racer, the titanal brings stability and power to their best no matter the speed. It also makes the ski stiffer which will help you handle crud, bumps and moguls with more confidence. The ski feels super stable and rips like a lord. If we had to find it one weakness, it would be powder riding. The ski isn’t that wide which is why it performs so well on hard snow but that means it gets very demanding to stay afloat on the deep. In short, the iKonic 85Ti is a powerful multitasker suited for any conditions but with a slight preference for hard snow.

Who is the iKonic 85 Ti designed for ?

The iKonic 85 Ti is a powerful all-mountain ski primarily intended for intermediate, advanced or expert skiers who want a versatile performer calling for progression.

What are the main assets of the K2 iKonic 85 Ti?

Type of turns

  • Multi-turns

  • Directional (front tip)  :

The ski shape allows only a directional use.

Structure - Construction

  • Hybritech sidewalls  :

This wider-waisted construction combines the accuracy and power performance of sidewall underfoot with the lightweight and smooth turn initiation of cap construction. Offered exclusively on the Side series, Hybritech makes skis strong, accurate and powerful underfoot, while maintaining smooth initiation and easy exits from turns.

  • Konic Technology  : Revolutionary core design that redistributes weight to the ski's perimeter providing power, strength and stability directly over the edge for performance, while reducing swing-weight from the center and extremities for added ease and control.
  • Poplar/Paulownia core  :

K2's Adventure skis use an Aspen/Paulownia blend core. Lower-density Aspen and even lighter-weight Paulownia allow us to reduce the weight that results from the added surface area of wider skis. In addition, the Bio Core is 15% lighter than the fir/aspen blend traditional in our all-mountain skis.

  • Metal Laminate Technology  :

Built with two sheets of lightweight Titanal running the length of the ski, metal-laminate skis are the highest performing and most complex construction available from K2. Built from the base up, a metal laminate construction consists of alternating layers of fiberglass and Titanal above and below the wood core. Metal-laminates provide dampened, accurate, unshakable performance ideal for expert-level skiers.

  • Triaxial braiding  :

Triaxial braiding consists of braiding fiberglass around a wood core to provide torsional rigidity for added control. Developed in 1988 by K2 engineers, the patented triaxial braiding machine interlocks strands of fiberglass around a milled wood core. This unique method produces skis with great torsional strength, that maintains the lively flex patterns of the wood core.

Camber type

  • Classic camber  :

When the ski sits flat on the ground, the tip and the tail are in contact with it while the midsection rises above. It is this section that maximises the energy transmission towards the edge, ideal for piste skiing. It also provides a rebound which enhances energy return and pop.

  • All-Terrain Rocker  :

All-Terrain Rocker features an elevated tip for variable and soft snow performance, as well as camber underfoot for power, energy, and edge-hold in firmer conditions.

Simply put, All-Terrain Rocker offers versatility and ease in all snow conditions.

Rocker type

  • Tip rocker  :

Skis are more manoeuvrable, contact points on the skis are placed in order to reduce the effective running length, which allows easier pivot and a better float.

  • K2/Marker MXC System  :

The brand new binding system K2/Marker MXC is 54% wider than the MX system and features the Triple Pivot toe and the Inter Pivot heel, which allows to gain precision and control with wide-waisted all-mountain skis. The MXC binding system features zinc supports running all the way to the edge of the ski which enhances the energy transfers and the edge grip. On top of being wider, this binding is 10% lighter thanks to a 12% lower height.

  • Tapered Tip  :

The widest point of the tip is further back on the ski, which reduces the weight of the tip and the resistance of it in soft snow.
