Alpine Ski K2 iKonic 85 Ti

The iKonic 85 Ti is back for another winter and carries the same attributes as its previous version. The all-mountain ski features K2’s Konic technology which consists in a construction that’s lighter in its center (poplar and paulownia) and more dense and stiff around. It results into a pair of skis that feels responsive and poppy as well as forgiving and easy to move around. It also comes with a carbon and titanal reinforcement enhancing torsional stiffness and traction.

What can the K2 iKonic 85 Ti do?

This all-mountain beast is broadly inspired from K2’s piste-specific line of skis. It is pretty powerful thanks to the titanal incorporated to its construction, but it remains manageable. Its traditional camber ensures firm edge bite on hardpack for optimal fun on groomers while the flat tail delivers a solid kick out of turns to keep accelerating. The all-mountain rocker makes turns easier to initiate and smoother, and provides added floatation when it comes to soft snow. The 85mm platform coupled with the rockered profile makes the ski very enjoyable off piste. It is an excellent choice for skiers who hop on and off piste all day long and who like to ski fast. You will definitely make it to the next level faster than you think.

Who is the K2 iKonic 85 Ti designed for?

We recommend it to those who seek a versatile anf playful ripper. The K2 iKonic knows what performance means and feels great in all conditions. With it, you don’t have to worry about how much it has snowed. Fresh snow, soft pow, warm slush or ice, the ski handles it all. Careful though, the titanal construction makes the ski technical and powerful, advanced and expert skiers will best deal with it.

Structure - Construction

  • Carbon Web  :

The Mod structure is wrapped by carbon fiber. The carbon stringers are oriented with a precise angle in order to increase resistance to torsion on the secondary core. That delivers a lighter ski that will stay solid against torsion where it's needed.

  • Konic Technology  : Revolutionary core design that redistributes weight to the ski's perimeter providing power, strength and stability directly over the edge for performance, while reducing swing-weight from the center and extremities for added ease and control.
  • Metal Laminate Technology  :

Built with two sheets of lightweight Titanal running the length of the ski, metal-laminate skis are the highest performing and most complex construction available from K2. Built from the base up, a metal laminate construction consists of alternating layers of fiberglass and Titanal above and below the wood core. Metal-laminates provide dampened, accurate, unshakable performance ideal for expert-level skiers.

  • Triaxial braiding  :

Triaxial braiding consists of braiding fiberglass around a wood core to provide torsional rigidity for added control. Developed in 1988 by K2 engineers, the patented triaxial braiding machine interlocks strands of fiberglass around a milled wood core. This unique method produces skis with great torsional strength, that maintains the lively flex patterns of the wood core.

  • TwinTech  :

This new Twin Tip specific construction process increases the durability of sidewall skis. A traditional sidewall construction produces a 90 degree angle where the top material and sidewall meet. The Twin Tech construction actually rolls the top material into the sidewall reducing the angle that is prone to abuse.

Camber type

  • Classic camber  :

When the ski sits flat on the ground, the tip and the tail are in contact with it while the midsection rises above. It is this section that maximises the energy transmission towards the edge, ideal for piste skiing. It also provides a rebound which enhances energy return and pop.

  • All-Terrain Rocker  :

All-Terrain Rocker features an elevated tip for variable and soft snow performance, as well as camber underfoot for power, energy, and edge-hold in firmer conditions.

Simply put, All-Terrain Rocker offers versatility and ease in all snow conditions.

Rocker type

  • Tip rocker  :

Skis are more manoeuvrable, contact points on the skis are placed in order to reduce the effective running length, which allows easier pivot and a better float.

  • K2/Marker MXC System  :

The brand new binding system K2/Marker MXC is 54% wider than the MX system and features the Triple Pivot toe and the Inter Pivot heel, which allows to gain precision and control with wide-waisted all-mountain skis. The MXC binding system features zinc supports running all the way to the edge of the ski which enhances the energy transfers and the edge grip. On top of being wider, this binding is 10% lighter thanks to a 12% lower height.
