Alpine Ski Salomon X Drive 8.3

The X Drive series belongs to Salomon’s All-Mountain Frontside range. The skis are made to deliver incredible on-piste performance while offering off-piste opportunities.  The X Drive 8.3 is a lighter all-mountain version of the X Drive 8.0

What can the Salomon X-Drive 8.3 do?

Here’s a new version of the notorious X Drive 8.0. The 8.3 features a new woodcore with a lower density making the ski lighter and more responsive.  The engineers also added a layer of titanal fibres from tip to tail in order to enhance the dampening and aborb vibrations and chatter better. That makes the ski more comfortable and it feels more secure.

Who was the Salomon X-Drive 8.3 designed for?

The ski is primarily intended for intermediate and advanced skiers looking for something easy, light and effortless.  Loyal to the X Drive series commitments, the X Drive 8.3 delivers an excellent frontside versatility and manoeuvers with ease on any terrains you may encounter. The ski floats on powder with ease and rips the hardpack with style.

Structure - Construction

  • Basalt layer  :

Used in building highways throughout the world, a Basalt layer in the ski provides outstanding dampening and vibration resistance.

  • Low density woodcore  :

The composite core density is lower which makes it 20% lighter without making it weaker.

  • RKS (Stabilisation du Rocker)  :

Fiber composite reinforcement that allows easy and precise turns

  • Semi-Sandwich  :

Combination of ABS sidewalls under the foot with monocoque construction by the tip and the tail for a smoother ski/snow contact, a more forgiving feel and easier turns.

Camber type

  • Classic camber  :

When the ski sits flat on the ground, the tip and the tail are in contact with it while the midsection rises above. It is this section that maximises the energy transmission towards the edge, ideal for piste skiing. It also provides a rebound which enhances energy return and pop.

Technology

  • All-Terrain Rocker 2.0  :

    Absorption of terrain variations

70% of the ski is in contact with the snow when it sits flat on the ground. 90% of it is in contact with the snow when it is on the edges.

Rocker type

  • Tip rocker  :

Skis are more manoeuvrable, contact points on the skis are placed in order to reduce the effective running length, which allows easier pivot and a better float.

Interface

  • X-Track plate  :

    Optimal power transmission

Various

  • Chassis X  :

Carbon diagonal reinforcement in the medial part of the ski. That increases torsional stiffness, grip and stability.

  • Tip protector  :

Carbon reinforcement increasing the reactivity and the stiffness in torsion without compromising the weight of the ski.

  • Flat tail  :

A flat tail design made for powerful and stable turn completion in deep powder.

Ski Binding Salomon M XT 12 C90 Black Green

The binding is lower which provides a more precise feel and an improved contact with the terrain. It is also wider with better lateral transmission.

The Progressive Transfer pads reduce vibrations and deliver a better ski/snow contact feel.

Compared to the previous version (Smartrack), the binding is 15% lighter in its Ti version and 5% lighter in its X-track STD version.

It's easy to mount and doesn't require any tools for adjusting different boot sizes.

The binding meets skiers' needs.
