Alpine Ski K2 iKonic 80

K2 are unveiling their new all-mountain range which they named the iKonic series. The skis have inheritated of the best features from their predecessors and blend them together to deliver smooth performance through the whole mountain. The K2 iKonic 80 is a touch more forgiving than the 85Ti. Made softer, the ski is also easier to manage and more playful.

What can the K2 iKonic 80 do?

The new K2 iKonic 80 is an amazing multitasker that offers easy performance. With a construction mirroring its bigger brother with the K2 Konic technology, the ski comes with a revolutionary core distributing the weight better. Lighter in the center, the core gets thicker and stronger when it comes close to the edges. Softer and more forgiving than the Ti version, the ski generates less muscular fatigue as well. It is a great ski for venturing through the mountain and discover new spots without having to worry about whether the ski is going to handle the conditions or not. It is an amazing blend of power, reactivity, forgiveness and playfulness which are things that don’t often go well together but on the iKonic 80...it works!

Who is the K2 iKonic 80 designed for?

The iKonic 80 is a playful and powerful all-mountain ski suited for intermediate and advanced  skiers who want to be able to enjoy their day by riding every sides of the mountain.

What are the main assets of the K2 iKonic 80 ?

Structure - Construction

  • Hybritech sidewalls  :

This wider-waisted construction combines the accuracy and power performance of sidewall underfoot with the lightweight and smooth turn initiation of cap construction. Offered exclusively on the Side series, Hybritech makes skis strong, accurate and powerful underfoot, while maintaining smooth initiation and easy exits from turns.

  • Konic Technology  :

Revolutionary core design that redistributes weight to the ski's perimeter providing power, strength and stability directly over the edge for performance, while reducing swing-weight from the center and extremities for added ease and control.

  • Fir/Poplar core  :

K2's Adventure skis use an Aspen/Paulownia blend core. Lower-density Aspen and even lighter-weight Paulownia allow us to reduce the weight that results from the added surface area of wider skis. In addition, the Bio Core is 15% lighter than the fir/aspen blend traditional in our all-mountain skis.

  • Triaxial braiding  :

Triaxial braiding consists of braiding fiberglass around a wood core to provide torsional rigidity for added control. Developed in 1988 by K2 engineers, the patented triaxial braiding machine interlocks strands of fiberglass around a milled wood core. This unique method produces skis with great torsional strength, that maintains the lively flex patterns of the wood core.

Camber type

  • Classic camber  :

When the ski sits flat on the ground, the tip and the tail are in contact with it while the midsection rises above. It is this section that maximises the energy transmission towards the edge, ideal for piste skiing. It also provides a rebound which enhances energy return and pop.

  • All-Terrain Rocker  :

All-Terrain Rocker features an elevated tip for variable and soft snow performance, as well as camber underfoot for power, energy, and edge-hold in firmer conditions.

Simply put, All-Terrain Rocker offers versatility and ease in all snow conditions.

Rocker type

  • Tip rocker  :

Skis are more manoeuvrable, contact points on the skis are placed in order to reduce the effective running length, which allows easier pivot and a better float.

  • Plaque M3  :

The Marker K2/M3 is the ultimate ski/plate/binding system designed for recreational skiers alike. The binding utilizes an Compact Toe and a fixed Compact2 Heel design to generate more power, precision and quickness underfoot, loosing 20% of weight compared to the previous model. The Marker K2/M3 system's sleek design is graphically integrated into the look of the A.M.P. Series skis.

  • Tapered Tip  :

The widest point of the tip is further back on the ski, which reduces the weight of the tip and the resistance of it in soft snow.

Looking for better skies than the one I had which was the case with the K2 Ikonic 80. Though the ski's make some noise during descending they are quite comfortable and still speedy. Will go skiing again within 2 weeks and wonder if the noise (perhaps because they're new?) will dissapear. Can recommend the skis if you're looking for comfort and still quite quick ones.

Reply from Glisshop :
Hello, thank you for your feedback. We are glad you like your new skis. According to that noise you heard, it may come from the tip protection which may shake when you go fast and will just have to be tightened up a bit. It can also come from the bindings but they will remain completely safe thanks to the pressure applied by your weight when you ski. Best regards, the Glisshop team
