Alpine Ski Black Crows Corvus Freebird

In one word, the Corvus Freebird is a fat freetouring ski delivering unique performance on the mountain.

What can the Black Crows Corvus Freebird do?

Black Crows are making their offering bigger with a new addition for 2016, the Corvus Freebird, a gorgeous freeski, a powder predator. Oriented towards freeride, the ski is 109mm waisted which ensures optimal support on the deep and maximal floatation. You can ride hard and fast, you won’t get it shaken. You can also mount it for touring, you won’t be disappointed. The Corvus Freebird feels less demanding than the traditional Corvus and offers a smoother and mellower flex. This means you lose a bit of edge traction on hard snow but you get so much fun laying slash turns on pow that it’s worth the loss. With the Corvus freebird, Black Crows is setting new standards by releasing a fat freeride ski that is totally skin-friendly.

Who is the Black Crows Corvus Freebird designed for?

Derived from the Corvus Big Mountain, the Freebird version is similar but comes with a lighter construction, the Freebird Gene 2 incorporating a carbon and fibreglass reinforced paulownia and poplar woodcore. It makes it a good choice for advanced or expert skiers looking for something technical and responsive on powder.

What are the main assets of the Black Crows Corvus Freebird?

Agility on powder

Type of turns

  • Long turns

  • Directional (front tip)  :

The ski shape allows only a directional use.

Weight of the pair in grams

  • 3760gr en 183.3cm

Structure - Construction

  • Freebird Gene 2  :

The bird gene in wide version. Specific combination for wide skis : Paulownia wood with Bird Carbon : tri-directional + bi- directional. Light for the ascent, vivacious for the descent. Optimal lightweight.

Camber type

  • Classic camber  :

When the ski sits flat on the ground, the tip and the tail are in contact with it while the midsection rises above. It is this section that maximises the energy transmission towards the edge, ideal for piste skiing. It also provides a rebound which enhances energy return and pop.

  • Single beak and a half  : progressive rocker in the tip, camber underfoot, slightly raised tail.

Rocker type

  • Tip rocker  :

Skis are more manoeuvrable, contact points on the skis are placed in order to reduce the effective running length, which allows easier pivot and a better float.

  • Early rise  :

Early rise rocker, long, flat and progressive. This enhances pivot when the ski is on flat ground but does not compromise the alpine performance when the ski carves.

  • Free Bird Edges  :

Thinner Lightning Edges enable you to carve with feeling and precision. Technical and made for ski-touring.

  • Print Base  :

Best for touring, freestyling and all-mountain riding.

Binding technologies

  • Triple Pivot Elite Toe  :

The toe construction with DIN/ISO up to Z 18 allows for impressive retention when freeriding. The spring in the toe is inserted horizontally and with a sole plate inclined by 5° it provides the highest energy absorption so as to reduce the risk of early release. The large supporting surface optimizes the power transmission and allows for great stresses and strains. In relation to their weight, toes with this technology therefore achieve a never-seen-before performance.

  • Touring mode  :

    Walk mode for touring

  • Anti Friction Device AFD  :

All Marker bindings are equipped with a moveable AFD (anti friction device) and therefore guarantee a highly precise release almost entirely unhindered by dirt, snow and ice! Individual adjustment of the AFD to the area of application ensures perfect functionality - from racing, for children’s bindings or on ski tours.
