Alpine Ski Black Diamond Carbon Convert

Before entering the skiing industry, Black Diamond built its notoriety through mountain sports and climbing. So when they began designing touring skis, they knew how important the weight of the equipment was. More lightweight, more performance, these were on focus for Black D. when they designed the Carbon series.

The Carbon Convert is a touch slimmer than the Carbon Megawatt and consequently more agile. The ski gets more precise and manoeuverable and that's quite welcome when the terrain gets technical. It's great partner for skiing down the narrow couloirs in the mountain.

What our testers say : The Carbon Convert is light, very light and it excels on powder snow. The carbon construction makes the ski lively and responsive but also stable. It's a nice ski for exploring nature hiding under fresh snow. Suited for advanced skiers with ambitions.

Structure - Construction

  • 3D Sandwich Light  :

Construction offering torsional stiffness and light materials adapted for touring performance.

  • Pre-preg fibreglass  :

This technology allows to control precisely the amount of epoxy resin used in each ski and helps maximising durability and stiffness. You get a lighter ski with the same durability, precision and skaibility.

  • Paulownia core  :

Light wood that grows fast and is easily renewable. Same resistance as poplar and same weight as balsa.

  • Power Edge
  • Technologie Formula One  :

F1 Tech is used for skis larger than 90 mm underfoot. This technology requires three major ribs. Some models, for added hard snow performance, utilize a sway bar at the nose to lock into high G-force turns.

Camber type

  • Classic camber  :

When the ski sits flat on the ground, the tip and the tail are in contact with it while the midsection rises above. It is this section that maximises the energy transmission towards the edge, ideal for piste skiing. It also provides a rebound which enhances energy return and pop.

Technology

  • Rocker  :

Rocker isn't designed only for powder anymore. It is a versatile tool helping on turn inititations, soft turns, and changing radius. The rocker provides wide skis with agility, and narrow skis with floatation. Depending on how the rocker rises, the ski delivers different performance. Black Diamond has sorted their skis into 3 categories : Rocker, Semi-Rocker and Traditional.

Rocker type

  • Tip and tail rocker  :

Full length rocker perfect for surfing powder. It floats easily and ensures smooth and effortless turns. Landings are easier too.

Various

  • P-Tex 4000 base  :

High speed base with stone finish, this provides the best compromise of durabilty, glide and maintenance.

  • Skin Lock  :

    Slot for touring skins.

Binding technologies

  • Triple Pivot Elite Toe  :

The toe construction with DIN/ISO up to Z 18 allows for impressive retention when freeriding. The spring in the toe is inserted horizontally and with a sole plate inclined by 5° it provides the highest energy absorption so as to reduce the risk of early release. The large supporting surface optimizes the power transmission and allows for great stresses and strains. In relation to their weight, toes with this technology therefore achieve a never-seen-before performance.

  • Touring mode  :

    Walk mode for touring

  • Anti Friction Device AFD  :

All Marker bindings are equipped with a moveable AFD (anti friction device) and therefore guarantee a highly precise release almost entirely unhindered by dirt, snow and ice! Individual adjustment of the AFD to the area of application ensures perfect functionality - from racing, for children’s bindings or on ski tours.
