Faction Prodigy W 2017

Alpine Ski Faction Prodigy W

Faction has derived its freeride Prodigy for women, with adjusted graphics and shape. It is a mid fat ski featuring a generous 96mm waist meaning it’s perfectly suited for surfing powder like a lord and smear the untouched with style. But agility and lightweight are key for women and big skis are generally not that light. Fortunately, the engineers at Faction worked hard in this direction and chose to use Balsa wood reknowned for its lightweight and gave the ski a modern dual radius shape for added manoeuverability.

What can the Faction Prodigy W ski do?

If you want to test the full potential of it, all you need is a slope covered of fresh snow. The ski will start floating instantly, carried by its massive rockered tip and its wide underfoot platform. The Prodigy W ensures optimal fluidity and excellent glide on pow. It’s smooth as butter and it gives you that nice satisfying feel when you lay a big slash turn. The modern sidecuts deliver maximal agility with their adjustable turn length. Long turns on wide powder fields or short turns in the woods or through the rocks, the ski does it all. The other enjoyable thing about the Prodigy W is that it remains responsive and stiff enough to deliver reliable edge control on harder snow or groomers. It is stable with a solid feel in difficult conditions. And remember, the ski is light, which means if you’re one of those skiers who like to use climbing skins for reaching new spots, you can. Just make sure you get the right touring bindings with it!

Who is the Faction Prodigy W designed for?

A ski like the Prodigy W is suitable for women skiers with an advanced or expert level looking for a versatile powder-oriented ski. It does require skills and strength to be managed but it will return the favor a hundredfold.

What are the main assets of the Faction Prodigy W ski?

All-terrain stability

Powder floatiness

Playfulness

Type of turns

Shape

  • Bidirectional (twin tip)  :

The ski shape allows to ski forward or backward.

Weight of the pair in grams

  • 3500 en 168 cm

Structure - Construction

  • Dual Radius Sidecuts  :

Borrowed from world cup race skis, two different radius on the one ski- a tighter radius forward of the boot center coupled with a 20% larger sidecut behind- lets us increase the edge-to-edge responsiveness so you can carve short turns whilst retaining high speed stability and control through the tail of the ski.

  • Poplar & Ash Core  :

A poplar core with ash "stringers" is used for their complimentary characteristics of dampness and responsiveness. Used on the bulk of the skis, this together with fiberglass above and below the core provide a smooth feel and control in all snow conditions.

  • Sandwich Construction  :

    Sandwich construction

  • Transition zone technology  :

Our "Blended Transition Zones" use complex curve geometries where both positive/negative sidecut and where rocker/camber meet to make turn initiation fluid yet the whole ski more stable controllable in all conditions.

Camber type

  • Classic camber  :

When the ski sits flat on the ground, the tip and the tail are in contact with it while the midsection rises above. It is this section that maximises the energy transmission towards the edge, ideal for piste skiing. It also provides a rebound which enhances energy return and pop.

Technology

  • 10/200mm Tip Rocker  :

Skis featuring a rockered tip and a traditional or flat camber float better on soft snow and deliver goof performance on groomers.

    10mm rise on a 200mm length.

  • 2mm Camber  :

Easy turn initiation on the slope, added reactivity off piste

  • 5/100mm tail rocker  :

The Rocker, or reverse camber, enhances powder floatation thanks to a bigger surface of contact with the snow. By combining different degrees of rocker with a flat or normal camber, powder performance is improved while piste performance isn't affected.

    5mm rocker rising on 100mm

Rocker type

  • Tip and tail rocker  :

Full length rocker perfect for surfing powder. It floats easily and ensures smooth and effortless turns. Landings are easier too.

Various

  • Micro-Cap Protection  :

In continuing their efforts to improve chip-resistance in their skis, Faction has incorporated a ‘micro’ cap where the topsheet meets the sidewall on their sandwich construction skis. Available on most models.

  • Semelle Ptex-4000 bases  :

Very High density base for an excellent glide performance, wax retention, and resistance to abrasion.

  • Gloss Layer Topsheet

The 10 mm wider drilling pattern blasts the Baron into a new stratosphere of power, with a DIN setting up 13. In addition the Baron 13 EPF also comes with Sole.ID and the easy-to-handle climbing aid.

Binding technologies

  • Triple Pivot Elite Toe  :

The toe construction with DIN/ISO up to Z 18 allows for impressive retention when freeriding. The spring in the toe is inserted horizontally and with a sole plate inclined by 5° it provides the highest energy absorption so as to reduce the risk of early release. The large supporting surface optimizes the power transmission and allows for great stresses and strains. In relation to their weight, toes with this technology therefore achieve a never-seen-before performance.

  • Anti Friction Device AFD  :

All Marker bindings are equipped with a moveable AFD (anti friction device) and therefore guarantee a highly precise release almost entirely unhindered by dirt, snow and ice! Individual adjustment of the AFD to the area of application ensures perfect functionality - from racing, for children’s bindings or on ski tours.

  • Inter-Pivot Heel  :

The stunning heel construction delivers superior holding power for free riding, featuring DIN/ISO 6-16. The Inter Pivot Heel directs the power forces in the angle of elasticity improving the holding power and reducing pre-releases.
