Alpine Ski K2 Coomback 104

The 2016 Coomback 104 by K2 is a great freetouring ski with a gorgeous topsheet featuring unique graphics. But beyond the ski, which is a limited edition, it is a tribute to the notorious freerider Doug Coombs and the La Grave resort. Doug sadly disappeared in 2006 in the Polichinelle couloir. K2 decided to release a ski in memory of this legendary rider. Technically speaking, the ski is lighter than ever with a new core made of maple and paulownia woods and new tapered tips. This new version also features a rocker in the tail giving the ski more manoeuverability and added forgiveness.

What can the K2 Coomback 104 do?

Attach the skins on the beast and you can climb any mountain you like, as steep as can be. Considering it is 104mm wide at waist, the ski feels pretty light and should get you to the top without wearing yourself out. Half day sessions or long tours, the Coomback 104 is a versatile tourer that will take you far and high. And when the top is reached, it's time for fun. As you can guess, a ski waisted over 100mm performs on pow like a lord and the Coomback is no exception. The 104mm platform carries you above powder surface naturally and surfes through the deep with elegance and agility. Always stable and reinsuring, the Coomback blasts through any kinds of snow and feels fantastic. Powerful and responsive, the ski has character and had our testers hyped!

Who is the K2 Coomback 104 designed for?

We recommend it to advanced and expert free tourers looking a solid ski that can perform both up and downhill. Lighter than you expect and incredibly satisfying on the deep, the Coomback is a true ski that loves to live in the wild.

What are the main assets of the K2 Coomback 104?

Type of turns

  • Long turns

  • Directional (front tip)  :

The ski shape allows only a directional use.

Structure - Construction

  • Carbon Web  :

The Mod structure is wrapped by carbon fiber. The carbon stringers are oriented with a precise angle in order to increase resistance to torsion on the secondary core. That delivers a lighter ski that will stay solid against torsion where it's needed.

  • Hybritech sidewalls  :

This wider-waisted construction combines the accuracy and power performance of sidewall underfoot with the lightweight and smooth turn initiation of cap construction. Offered exclusively on the Side series, Hybritech makes skis strong, accurate and powerful underfoot, while maintaining smooth initiation and easy exits from turns.

  • Paulownia/Maple core

Camber type

  • Classic camber  :

When the ski sits flat on the ground, the tip and the tail are in contact with it while the midsection rises above. It is this section that maximises the energy transmission towards the edge, ideal for piste skiing. It also provides a rebound which enhances energy return and pop.

  • All-Terrain Rocker  :

All-Terrain Rocker features an elevated tip for variable and soft snow performance, as well as camber underfoot for power, energy, and edge-hold in firmer conditions.

Simply put, All-Terrain Rocker offers versatility and ease in all snow conditions.

Rocker type

  • Tip rocker  :

Skis are more manoeuvrable, contact points on the skis are placed in order to reduce the effective running length, which allows easier pivot and a better float.

  • Powder Tip  :

Designed to be more predictable in soft snow conditions, these tips are designed to strike the perfect balance of maximizing float while reducing tip deflection. These tips are designed with a gentle arc and transition into the sidecut of the ski.

  • Snophobic Top Sheets  :

Since snow collecting on the ski can add pounds to a climb, our SnoPhobic tops keeps you light with a new snow-repellent topsheet. The running surface along the bottom of a ski is hydrophobic by design, so we’ve developed a thinner version of the same material to use on the BackSide model-specific topsheets.

Touring Binding Marker Baron 13 EPF 110 mm Black White Silver

As the lighter cousin to the Duke with a DIN setting up 13, the Baron has earned its stripes as a favorite amongst big mountain, backcountry enthusiasts. Extended Power Frame (EPF), with its extra-wide connection to the ski, gives it the structure needed to power today's wider skis through any snow conditions, whether inside or outside the resort. The 10 mm wider drilling pattern blasts the Baron into a new stratosphere of power, with a DIN setting up 13. In addition the Baron 13 EPF also comes with Sole.ID and the easy-to-handle climbing aid.

Binding technologies

  • Triple Pivot Elite Toe  :

The toe construction with DIN/ISO up to Z 18 allows for impressive retention when freeriding. The spring in the toe is inserted horizontally and with a sole plate inclined by 5° it provides the highest energy absorption so as to reduce the risk of early release. The large supporting surface optimizes the power transmission and allows for great stresses and strains. In relation to their weight, toes with this technology therefore achieve a never-seen-before performance.

  • Anti Friction Device AFD  :

All Marker bindings are equipped with a moveable AFD (anti friction device) and therefore guarantee a highly precise release almost entirely unhindered by dirt, snow and ice! Individual adjustment of the AFD to the area of application ensures perfect functionality - from racing, for children’s bindings or on ski tours.

  • Inter-Pivot Heel  :

The stunning heel construction delivers superior holding power for free riding, featuring DIN/ISO 6-16. The Inter Pivot Heel directs the power forces in the angle of elasticity improving the holding power and reducing pre-releases.
