Black Crows touring ski sets
Why choose a Black Crows ski touring pack?
Bruno COMPAGNET, co-founder of Black Crows, shares his vision of what a ski touring pack is: ""for us, a mountain ski is a simple equation: lightweight, but skiable, reliable and solid"". The Freebird range, Black Crows ski touring line, follows this adage perfectly, with 7 models that are different in terms of volume, but have a very similar construction. The magic recipe of Black Crows touring skis is a light but tonic wood core, generally made of paulownia, reinforced with titanium at the binding to prevent damage, and encased in a sandwich of mixed fibreglass and carbon fibre. Thus, these skis perfectly meet the need for lightness in touring, while ensuring the expected performance for descents and remaining reliable trip after trip.

Choosing the right Black Crows ski for touring
In the Black Crows Freebird range of touring skis, there are 7 pairs of skis which are distinguished above all by their differences in volume and weight. The range starts with the very thin Vastus Freebird, a ski with a skate of barely 76 mm and weighing only 1,960 grams per pair in a size 171. It then moves on to the Ova Freebird (85 mm on the skate, 2,200 grams in a size 170), the Orb Freebird (90 mm on the skate, 2,700 grams in a size 173) and the Camox Freebird (96 mm on the skate, 2,700 grams in a size 172), the Navis Freebird (102 mm on the runner, 3,250 grams per pair in a size 173), the Corvus Freebird (107 mm on the runner, 3,650 grams per pair in a size 176) and finally the Ferox Feebird (110 mm on the runner, 3,500 grams per pair in a size 176).
All of these skis have similar constructions, which makes them both lightweight and high-performance, with a wood core, glass and carbon fibre and a titanium plate in the bindings. The only one to benefit from a slightly more distinctive construction is the widest in the range, the Ferox Freebird, whose core mixes two types of wood with an Isocore, a polyurethane foam reinforced with a continuous fibreglass in order to increase the weight without losing performance.
These different models allow you to choose the most suitable ski adapted to your programme and the conditions in which you will be skiing. If you are more of a long-distance and light touring skier, head for the Vastus Freebird or the Ova Freebird. For more versatile riding, choose the Orb Freebird or the Camox Freebird if you want a little more lift in the powder. Finally, if skiability, power and flotation are a priority for you, choose the Navis Freebird, Corvus Freebird and Ferox Freebird for big lines in powder and mixed snow."
