The ASCENT 22 AVABAG is an ultra-lightweight avalanche backpack made by Ortovox: it weighs in at just 1950 grams including Avabag system and cartridge. The Avabag is a particularly compact ultra-lightweight Airbag system weighing in at just 690 grams.
The AVABAG system is also very interesting because it allows you to practice triggering by disconnecting the cartridge. So you can practice pulling the handle as many times as you like to prepare for the worst, and to familiarize yourself with the gesture and the pressure to be exerted.
One of the reasons for the AVABAG ASCENT 22's light weight also lies in the use of extremely light, abrasion-resistant fabrics such as 100D Robic Ripstop Nylon.
As always with Ortovox this Airbag backpack isn't just lightweight, it's also extremely comfortable. Its padded 3D back panel distributes the load evenly between the ventral strap and the lightly padded shoulder straps.
Add to this a circular zip that guarantees quick access to the main compartment, a diagonal ski binding system, but also ice axe and rope attachments and we have an ultra-lightweight Airbag backpack cut out for the most demanding ski tours.
