Why and when to use trail running poles?
When you start to go for long runs, any improvement in energy efficiency is a bonus. Trail running poles are an excellent piece of equipment when the terrain is hilly, preserving your legs in the ascents and providing stability in the descents. You can use more power from your upper body and arms and less from your precious legs. When descending, the same rule applies, by holding your body weight, you put less pressure on your thighs. There are poles made out of carbon or aluminium, the first option being lighter. Some can be folded to take less space in your backpack.
