How to choose a headlamp?
Lighting is an essential part of camping. Except if you plan on going to sleep and waking up with the sun! It is probably not the case, so make sure to choose the right lightning equipment. The most common, the must-have, is the headlamp. Its power is measured in lumens. While some headlamps have a fixed, defined output, which might be necessary for certain activities (mountain biking in the night for example), you can choose a headlamp offering several lighting modes. These various modes (boost mode, economy, steady, strobe, white light, red light, various intensities, …) can be very useful, notably when you are in a group, and you need a beam to light your field of view without blinding your camping friends. Additional point to consider: run time. Be careful to choose a headlamp with a good battery life, at least, a sufficient battery life for your adventure with a safety margin. Waterproofness can also be of importance, especially if you are out in the rain. Finally, you can pick your lamp depending on its charging mode, (cylindrical batteries, Lithium Ion, usb port, …). Buying a lamp is not that trivial, and requires some thinking.
