What does a 50L capacity mean?

A 50L capacity refers to a unit of volume measurement: it means the pack can hold up to 50 litres of contents. This gives a concrete indication of its size and the internal space available to organise your gear.

Which capacity should you choose for a hiking backpack?

The choice of capacity depends primarily on the duration of your trip and your level of self-sufficiency. For a day hike, a 20–30 litre pack is sufficient. For a multi-day trip with nights in refuges, a 40–50 litre model is ideal. However, if you’re fully self-sufficient and camping overnight, opt for a 60–70 litre pack.

Small-capacity backpacks: 30L or 40L

Perfect for short hikes or two-day treks, these packs allow you to carry the essentials: spare clothing, water, food, a first-aid kit and, if necessary, a lightweight sleeping bag. If you want a smaller and lighter model than 50 litres, take a look at our 40-litre backpacks.

Large-capacity backpacks: 60L or 70L

This volume is suited to extended hikes with camping. It provides the necessary space to carry a tent, sleeping mat, sleeping bag, warm clothing, cookware and provisions.
