The French brand Petzl creates specialized equipment for mountaineering, speleology and climbing specialists. Since its creation at Crolles in 1975, the company kept innovating to help you push forward, whether it is vertically, in the darkness, or both, offering innovating solutions in terms of security and lighting. Its founder, Fernand Petzl, was a craftsman but first and foremost a renowned speleologist who participated in the explorations of the Dent de Crolles (1936) and the Gouffre Berger (1950). The company started its blockers / descenders production in 1968 but it’s with its revolutionary headlamp that the brand made a name for itself in the mountaineering industry in 1973. Four years later, it extended its range by adding harnesses to its collection.
Launched in 1991, the Grigri Belay Assisted-Braking device became one of Petzl’s most iconic models. After buying Charlet Moser in 2000, the company also started to produce crampons and ice axes.
Since the 90’s, the company has also developed a specialized offer for professionals working at height and emergency services. The New York firefighters in particular have been using the EXO Individual evacuation system since 2006. In addition, a training and experimentation centre has opened in the Crolles headquarters in 2008. The Petzl group now consists of four production sites (three in France and one in Malaysia) and three commercial subsidiaries (in the United States, Spain and Germany). The current CEO is none other than Paul Petzl, son of the founder. Chris Sharma, Lynn Hill, Ueli Steck, François Damilano, Mike Horn or Phil Bence all put their trust in Petzl. And now it's your turn to access the inaccessible!
