What you need to know about cross-country ski suits:
The suits can be one-piece or two-piece.
- One-piece suits are put on by the legs and closed with a chest zip or two zips that go from the neck to the shoulders. They are generally popular with cross-country skiers.
- Two-piece suits can be sold as one set or piece by piece depending on the brand. They are made of the same material as the one-piece suits but have a tights and a top with a pectoral zip ½. They are generally more worn by biathletes who sometimes need to wear only the suit top for shooting.
Why choose a cross-country ski suit?
Quite simply because it is the basic garment for cross-country skiers, especially those who see the practice from a sports and performance point of view. It acts as a first layer at the leg level and is worn over the thermal undergarment at the top. Thermal tights can also be worn as a first layer in cold weather.
The cross-country ski suit is not only used for racing, experienced cross-country skiers know that the suit is worn during every session, especially for long or intense outings where it ensures optimal ventilation.
Is a cross-country suit warm?
No, a cross-country ski suit is not made for heat input, on the contrary, when cross-country skiing all the muscle chains are stressed, so the body temperature rises and the body needs maximum ventilation.
Is a cross-country ski suit insulated against the wind?
No, the suits do not have windproof membranes, which would be counterproductive to the thermoregulation of the effort.
Who wears ski suits?
As you have probably noticed if you have ever seen cross-country skiing or biathlon races, athletes always use wetsuits for racing, but this does not make them exclusively for the elite.
Indeed, a lower level skier should wear a suit on long outings because it is the garment that will provide the greatest thermal comfort.
Whether it is for training or racing, the suit is the basic clothing for the cross-country skier. We rarely measure its contribution before trying it on. If you wish to invest in a suit and don't know what to choose, don't hesitate to ask us for advice, we are always available to help our customers.
