The best piste/performance skis for 2020

Once again, the Glisshop Team has spent the early winter on the slopes trying out the latest novelties to give you the best buying advice! Even though it looks like dream holidays for some, it’s still hard work and we’ve come up with a little selection of the finest 2020 piste/performance skis. From the most accessible ones to pure carving monsters made to slay the slopes, we had the chance to test the best of the best and here’s our favorite picks for the year!

Salomon S/force 11

Let’s kick off with a big gun: Salomon demonstrates all of its power and versatility with this S/Force 11! An incredibly-grippy and stable model that feels at ease on all kinds of snows, even when the conditions are less than ideal. Slightly wider than most pure piste ski to give you more control in tricky descents, the 11 fears nothing with its Edge Amplifier technology boosting the rebound on power transfers and its carbon-reinforced tips softening the ride. You can count on a mind-blowing precision to nail turns like never before and charge the slopes as hard as you can. The harder, the better, it can handle it! You’ll literally feel its power on the edge so make the most of it to carve deep lines all the way to the bottom. It’s a demanding ski for sure but advanced and expert riders should have no trouble mastering it. If you want top performance, lightning-fast speed, and big thrills, you’ll be served!

What we liked most:

  • Outstanding grip

  • All-season piste ski

  • High-speed stability

Rossignol React R6

Not the fastest ski of this list but clearly the one with the best compromise between performance and accessibility. The R6 is a very intuitive model that will please intermediate-level riders who want to step up the pace and experience new sensations. Very forgiving, it helps you ride with full confidence and draw nice lines from side to side with a playful touch that will push you to give everything you’ve got. Even better, it literally steers on demand with its tonic carbon-reinforced wood core and Flex Tip technology, a combination that ensures a great stability and rebound for unforgiving accelerations out of turns. Ideal to sort out your carving magic! You’ll be able to ride all day without ending dead tired, all of that with a very interesting price!

What we liked most:

  • Playful handling

  • Accessible

  • Value for money

Head Supershape Magnum

Ok, now we’re getting serious. The Supershape Magnum from Head is a pure piste ski that lives for speed and speed only, a true dynamite stick with cutting-edge technologies and performances that will knock you right into the middle of next week! Indeed, this little bomb comes with a Kers system (yes, like in Formula 1), a World Cup-inspired Sandwich construction, and a strengthened heel that literally kicks you from turn to turn, you’ll feel like having a turbo on the rear! The all-around stability is truly impressive and, cherry on top, you don’t need to go all out all the time to really enjoy it, it will make you feel like a champion while still being pleasant to ride at lower speed. In other words, it will be ideal for experienced riders who want a responsive pair of sticks that won’t put them on their knees after two descents. Believe us, there’s simply nothing better when it comes to big thrills!

What we liked most:

  • Powerful

  • Flawless reactivity

  • Ultra-precise

Nordica Dobermann Spitfire 72 RB FDT

Thin, fast and precise, the Dobermann Spitfire 72 RB is the most performant Nordica ski outside of racing models, an angry little beast that’s eager to bite the groomed and unleash all its power on the slopes! Reinforced by two titanium layers for more stability and a touch of carbon for an enhanced reactivity, it features a Slalom tip and a Giant tail that will help you carve at mind-blowing speeds. This powerful build is combined to an integral classic camber for the delight of the most demanding riders. In other words, if you like go fast with a ski that feels as good in short turns than in long curves, this is as close as you can get to racing sensations without buying a true racing ski! Just be prepared, you need to be in good shape to handle it.

What we liked most:

  • Sensations

  • Incredible grip

  • Stability

Dynastar Speed Zone 10 Ti

The perfect alliance of power, agility, and lightness, the Dynastar Speed Zone 10 Ti Konect is a ski that delivers sensation-wise without ruining your legs! Packed with little technical wonders such as the Air Active Core and the Powerdrive technology, it remains ultra stable and grippy at high-speed giving you the confidence you need to attack the slopes and nail short turns without a second thought. Despite these high-performances, it’s still a pretty accessible model if you’ve got the level and it will make the happiness of advanced riders who like to charge hard on freshly-groomed red and black slopes. Icing on the cake, the iridescent finish on the topsheet creates beautiful shade variations, a sublime display worthy of the new king of the hill!
