Arva Evo5 avalanche transceiver

The Arva Evo5 avalanche beacon is a revolution in itself. Much more compact than its predecessor with only 11 cm in height and 7 cm in width, it is also lighter, weighing only 170 g instead of 220 g for the Evo 4. If the Arva brand is known for its innovations, it dares to challenge habits by offering the Evo5 with a carrying belt, itself equipped with a leash to which the device can be attached. It will then be very easy to slip it into one of the pockets of your ski pants. To carry the avalanche beacon as close to you as possible, under your ski jacket, a holster, sold separately. 

Among the other evolution of the Arva Evo5, one is particularly notable and it is its shape. The brand's R&D team has indeed opted for a triangular slider with 3 positions, secured by a push button on the top. It prevents accidental switching from one mode to another. Equipped with a backlit screen and a speaker that generates a precise and modulated sound, the Evo5 efficiently guides you to a victim buried under an avalanche. As a worthy successor to the Evo 4, it is characterized by its ease of use, the ability to ensure that all participants in a group have turned on their devices (Group Check), as well as the self-test function that checks that your beacon is operational when it turns on. 

What are the advantages of the Arva Evo5? 

Key factor to locate victims quickly, the Evo5's search strip is 50 m. It is only 40 m on the Evo 4. In order to permanently maintain a clear location of the signal emitted by the buried skier or snowboarder's device under an avalanche, the Evo5 has a function to manage electromagnetic interference generated by other devices such as smartphones or walkie-talkies. It benefits from another innovation, the detection of an avalanche by timer or motion sensor + timer. Thus, if you intervene with the reception mode activated and you are yourself caught by a second avalanche, the Evo5 automatically switches to transmission mode. All these functions can, of course, be activated or deactivated in the beacon’s configuration settings. 

How to react in case of avalanche? 

To find a buried victim, you must switch to search mode. For this, nothing could be simpler! A single press on the Evo5 button is enough to switch from one mode to the other. Once the direction indication and the distance are displayed on the large backlit screen, there is nothing left to do but calmly follow the instructions. The Evo5 guides you with directional arrows to the 3 m zone. From there, the arrows disappear to allow you to make the final cross search as close to the ground as possible. Then you have to probe, then dig. 

How does the Evo5 work in multiple burial mode? 

If several people are buried, the Evo5 automatically displays icons corresponding to each victim as soon as their signal is detected. Once the first person is spotted and their position is taken, you can use the victim marking function to move on to the search for the next person while your teammates clear the first, and so on.

Spark 240 Probe 

The Spark 240 Probe is a super compact, versatile probe that is extremely effective in any conditions. Made from aluminium, it measures 2.40 m when fully deployed. It consists of 8 segments of 30 cm each, which are very easy to put together. The handle and Pin Lock locking system allow for quick deployment. The stainless-steel tensioning system is known to be extremely rugged. The graduation allows you to know the depth of the snow precisely.

Access TS Shovel 

Like a beacon and a probe, a snow shovel is an integral part of the safety equipment necessary for splitboarding, freeride skiing and ski touring. The Access TS model is robust, reliable and compact.

To acquire in-depth knowledge of avalanche prevention, know how to perfectly use your avalanche beacon and be fully operational when the time comes, Glisshop recommends that you take a course with the ANENA (National Association for the Study of Snow and Avalanches). You can also contact the French Federation of Alpine Clubs, with which you can also be trained in mountain rescue and follow regular training to search for avalanche victims.
