Description
The X-IUM Premium Skate has evolved well this year, now available with several types of cambers, it also has a redesigned external structure and small adjustments to its sidelines. For this version designed for cold snow, we have opted for a Medium camber, which is the most versatile.
What are the characteristics of the Rossignol X-IUM Skating Premium S1 Medium IFP cross-country ski? Known for several years as the cold snow ski in the Rossignol range, the S1 is equipped with a K 9000 Cold sole and a fine cold structure. It therefore excels in snow conditions around -10°C with low humidity. As far as its internal structure is concerned, it remains on the basis of the old model with a Nomex honeycomb shell sandwiched between two carbon blades. This construction ensures dynamism and lateral rigidity when skating. The biggest changes are in the external structure with a modification of the edges, which now pass over a single layer 3Edge Energy Sensor. This modification lightens the structure by avoiding the gluing of two different material densities. As far as the sidecut is concerned, there is a small change in the heel, the latter has been refined so as not to grip the snow at the end of the lateral thrust. This ski is often used on fresh and dry snow with a slightly soft or unstable bottom, it is therefore important that the ski does not remain too firmly anchored in the snow when it clears at the end of the thrust. The last change made concerns the two ends, the spatula and the heel. The spatula is lighter and stronger, it promotes better balance of the ski by limiting the pendulum effect at the end of the active push and when the ski returns below the centre of gravity. The heel also benefits from a reinforcement which ensures a little more aggressiveness on passages of compact snow. In terms of behaviour, the Premium S1 offers all the guarantees of dynamism that one can expect from a top-of-the-range ski from Rossignol. Softer than an S2 with a less elongated camber, it nevertheless remains very lively underfoot and performs better on soft snow. The Medium camber ensures maximum versatility depending on the cold snow conditions that may be encountered. It is fitted with IFP Easter, which is only compatible with Turnamic bindings. This binding system is adapted to NNN, Turnamic and Prolink boot standards.
Who is the Rossignol X-IUM Skating Premium S1 Medium IFP cross-country ski intended for?
It is a ski for assiduous skiers who already own a pair for more common conditions. It excels in cold snow and has a design adapted to this type of conditions. For example, it is a very good choice for skiers who have a pair of S2s and wish to expand their ski bag with a pair for different snow conditions.
