Why and when to use trail running poles?
When you start to go for long runs, any improvement in energy efficiency is a bonus. Trail running poles are an excellent piece of equipment to preserve your legs in the ascents and provide stability in the descents. You can rely more on your upper body strength by using your arms and less on your precious legs. When descending, by holding your body weight, the poles allow to put less pressure on your thighs. There are carbon or aluminium models, the first option being lighter. Some are foldable to take less space in your backpack, on your hydration vest or trail running belt.
