What types of accessories for your cross-country ski outfit do we offer?
- Cross-country ski caps
- Cross-country ski headbands
- Cross-country ski gloves
- Cross-country ski touring necks
- Cross-country ski socks
What are the characteristics of a cross-country ski cap?
A cross-country ski hat is generally lighter than a "normal" hat or an alpine ski hat. It should provide a minimum of warmth by protecting the ears and forehead from cold air while promoting ventilation on the top of the head. For this reason, cups generally have a thicker band on the forehead and all around the head and a finer texture on the upper part of the head.
We have two types of cross-country ski caps:
- Skiing caps
- After-ski caps
After-ski caps are thicker, in different materials (wool or acrylic). They are designed to be worn after skiing and protect you from cold snaps.
What are the characteristics of a cross-country ski headband?
Cross-country ski headbands are very thin, they are made to bring maximum thermoregulation to the effort. They are only worn to protect the forehead and ears from cold air. The headband can be worn in many circumstances outside of very cold weather, where a hat will provide more effective protection. But for temperatures between 0 and -5°C, headbands are more than sufficient in good weather.
What are the characteristics of cross-country ski gloves?
Most cross-country ski gloves have the same type of construction, an elastic outer surface with a wind and water-repellent membrane and a natural or synthetic leather interior. A cross-country ski glove is inherently thinner than an alpine ski glove for two reasons.
- Because the arm movements melt with each step and blood flows much faster with the intensity of the effort.
- Because in cross-country skiing it is very important to have a good grip and precision in holding the strap.
There are of course several types of gloves for cross-country skiing :
- Very thin racing gloves without membrane
- The more classic, slightly thicker gloves with membranes
- Warm gloves for leisure use
- Mittens or Lobster for very cold weather.
When choosing your pair of gloves, you simply have to take into consideration your sporting level, as this influences the frequency of movement and the warming up of the hand during effort. But also your general program, if you are more of a walker or a long cross-country skier. Of course, the geographical location of your activity can have a strong influence on the temperatures and the thickness of the gloves you will need.
What are the characteristics of the cross-country ski touring necks?
For cross-country skiing, forget about polar or very thick necklaces, they will make you too hot, make you sweat and risk getting cold. Cross-country skiing being a sport with high energy consumption, you will warm up quickly, so choker necks are generally quite light, you can find different materials, oplyester, polyamide or wool in very fine mesh.
What are the characteristics of cross-country ski socks?
For the practice of cross-country skiing it is important to keep good sensations under the foot because the touch of snow is of paramount importance. Cross-country ski socks are therefore quite thin, contrary to certain preconceived ideas. A cross-country ski sock must have three particularities.
- A thicker reinforcement at the toes to keep them from getting cold.
- A thin instep area so as not to take up too much volume and impede blood circulation with the compression of the shoe.
- A thicker reinforcement zone in the heel area to protect against rubbing and prevent blisters.
It is therefore important to choose your socks carefully so that you don't suffer from foot aches, which are synonymous with bad cross-country skiing experiences.
