The Creation of Dynastar in 1963

Sallanches, France, 1963: two local manufacturers joined forces to produce a revolutionary modern ski—the Compound. Combining the names of the two companies, Dynamic and Starflex Skis, the Dynastar brand was born.

Three years later, Dynastar achieved fame at the 1966 World Championships in Portillo, Chile, when Marielle Goitschel and Guy Perillat won several world titles and numerous silver medals. The brand's standout ski at the time was the MV2 ski, an all-aluminium ski with a top reinforcement plate and phenol sidewalls. The name MV2 paid homage to the classic physics formula where force equals mass times velocity squared. Dynastar was propelled into the spotlight, attracting prestigious investors such as Laurent Boix-Vives, then Director of Rossignol, who acquired the brand in 1967.

Partnership with Lange and the Release of the Omeglass Ski

Producing over 100,000 pairs of skis annually in the Sallanches factory for the European market, Dynastar was ready to tackle the vast American market. Gradually, the brand gained worldwide traction, increasing production by 10 to 15% each year and reaching a historic peak in the late 1980s with 530,000 pairs produced and over €41 million in revenue. During this time, Dynastar partnered with Lange Ski Boots, a leader in ski footwear. Legendary ski models followed: the Omeglass slalom ski in 1975, lighter thanks to acrylic foam and that helped Henri Duvillard win multiple medals. The Omesoft ski in 1978, a massive hit in the U.S., and, of course, the iconic Doré racing ski in 1984. This model featured groundbreaking technologies, including the famous Contact System for tip vibration absorption. Athletes like Paoletta Magoni and Debbie Armstrong demonstrated its prowess by winning gold medals at the Sarajevo Olympics in Slalom and Giant Slalom, while French skier Didier Bouvet claimed bronze in Slalom.

Olympic Glory in 1992 and 1994

Dynastar cemented its legacy during the 1992 Albertville Olympics and the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics, winning more Olympic medals than any competing brand. One of the most memorable achievements was Edgar Grospiron’s stunning moguls performance, where, with his Dynastar Assault skis, he became the discipline’s first Olympic champion. The Assault ski went on to sell over 100,000 units for more than 10 seasons. The Dynastar Course ski also left a mark, excelling in downhill events in 1992 and 1994. Then, in 1996, the parabolic ski arrived. Dynastar embraced this trend, and within months, its R&D teams developed the Max Cut ski, a fun, friendly ski aimed at recreational skiers. Once again, Dynastar captured the skiing world’s attention in 1998 with its 4x4 freeride ski, performing exceptionally in powder under the guidance of freeriders like Jeremy Nobis and Arno Adam.

2000s: A New Line of Skis for Women

In the early 2000s, Dynastar launched a new range of skis exclusively for women. Lighter and more manageable, the Dynastar Exclusive women’s skis featured technology tailored to female physiology, enhancing the skiing experience. The 2000s also saw the rise of off-piste freeriding, allowing Dynastar to further assert its dominance in this arena with pro rider Aurélien Ducroz, who won prestigious titles in Verbier and Chamonix, and two world championships in 2009 and 2011. And no discussion of Dynastar is complete without mentioning the revolutionary Pierra Menta Carbon ski, designed exclusively for ski mountaineering races. From 2012, this ski featured a rocker in the front, making it even faster on descents. With these innovative skis, athletes like Florent Perrier and William Bon-Mardion even managed to outpace Kilian Jornet on the downhill.

More recently, at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, Dynastar once again captured the spotlight as Dominique Gisin took gold in the downhill event, while Jean-Frédéric Chapuis and Arnaud Bovolenta won gold and bronze respectively in the ski cross event.

The Dynastar legacy continued with the iconic Cham and PowerTrack skis, followed by the Dynastar Speed and M-Tour series. Technologies like Powerdrive and Active Air Core continue to add fluidity and comfort to the skiing experience.
