How to choose your cross-country ski gloves?
In order to make the right choice of gloves, you must ask yourself the following questions:
- Am I particularly sensitive to the cold?
- What is my type of practice (competition, sport or leisure)?
- I already have a pair of gloves but I want a complementary one for other conditions?
- In which geographical area, at which altitude and at which period will I ski?
With these simple little questions you will have already done a good part of the way and you will already find some answers on the category of gloves on which to orientate yourself.
Are there several types of gloves for cross-country skiing?
Yes, because not all gloves are made for the same types of skiers, or the same weather conditions. There are several types of cross-country ski gloves that could be classified as follows:
- Ultra thin competition gloves without windproof membrane.
- Thin gloves with water-repellent windproof membrane
- Slightly thicker gloves with water-repellent windproof membrane
- Thick, warm gloves with water-repellent windproof membrane
- Mittens or Lobster (3-finger mittens) for very cold temperatures
Depending on your practice and if you already have gloves, you will need to determine what type of gloves you need as a single glove or as a complement if you are a regular skier.
Are cross-country ski gloves waterproof?
No, cross-country ski gloves are not waterproof for a simple reason, they must also be breathable. As cross-country skiing is a sport with high energy expenditure, the accessories must be suitable for the practice and offer a minimum of ventilation. Most models have windproof and water-repellent membranes which are more than sufficient for cross-country skiing in terms of waterproofness.
What to choose? Natural or synthetic leather palm?
It's a very personal choice and it is also in line with your convictions or your needs depending on whether you are Vegan or not for example, or depending on your intense or episodic use.
Technically here are the differences:
- The glove with a natural leather palm offers a longer lifespan if it is properly maintained. It is important to know that a glove with a natural leather palm is not machine washable and that the leather must be greased regularly so that it retains its softness and elasticity.
- The glove with a synthetic palm is less durable, but has the advantage that it can be machine washed (sparingly and in a washing bag if possible).
The fact that the palm of a glove is made of natural or synthetic leather does not determine its level of range because some synthetic palm gloves are particularly well worked, it is mainly a personal choice in relation to one's habits and comfort criteria.
How do I find my glove size?
We have set up size grids at the bottom of each product sheet. You must therefore take the measurements at the points indicated to find the size of cross-country ski gloves that will suit you best.
And if you have any questions, we are always at your disposal to inform you and help you find the product that best suits your expectations and your practice.
