What are the accessories and clothing items essentials for mountain biking?

Helmet

not mandatory but highly recommended to protect your head from potential falls, an MTB helmet is definitely essential for your rides. Coming in all shapes for all riding styles (BMX, cross-country, enduro, DH) a modern helmet is both lightweight, comfortable, and above all robust with technologies such as MIPS bringing even more protection.

Shorts

very useful to offer comfort, MTB shorts are great in all situations, no matter if you are seated on the saddle or standing on the pedals. Available in numerous models, with various fits, materials and colours, you are sure to find a pair to please you in our online store.

Jersey

an essential item for a cyclist, the MTB jersey slightly differs from the road counterpart. With long sleeves and not as tight fitting, it offers loads of ventilation to be the most comfortable possible during your session. The back panel on this kind of jersey is longer than on a classic one to prevent it from rising when you are bent forward in a descent.

Jacket

when the elements are against you, having an MTB jacket enables you to brave the wind, the rain and the cold. It can be a jacket made from a technical and breathable fabric to stay warm in winter, or simply a light wind and water-proof one to face a light summer rain. It is an essential item to include in your sports clothing collection.

Protective gear

for freeride, enduro or DH, a full body protection is more than essential. We recommend a back protector, elbow and knee guards and of course, a helmet. Modern protections use breathable materials to avoid sweating like a pig after 15 minutes. They are very comfortable to wear while offering maximum safety thanks to materials such as plastic, foam or EVA.

Shoes

different from road cycling models, MTB shoes have a sole tread pattern enabling to run while carrying the bike. They are more durable and offer more protection to face the mud and water while remaining as light as possible. They vary depending on the discipline as well. A freeride or DH shoe has a flat sole to allow more freedom of movement.

Backpack

the trend these past years is toward a backpack with a water bladder rather than a simple bottle. It is true that in the descents, with obstacles to clear, it can easily fly way! Beyond carrying your hydration system, this item can hold your repairing tools, energy bars, smartphone, keys and more. All sorts of model types are available, with different materials, storage capacities and adjustments. Some even prefer MTB bum bags, lighter and more compact.

Glasses

Part of the cyclist equipment, MTB glasses fit snuggly around your face to protect you from the sun, wind, dust or any other debris. They also offer a wide field of view along with a fool proof capacity to stay on even in the wildest runs. We recommend big brands such as Julbo, Oakley or Smith who offer high quality lenses allowing to better distinguish the trail, roots or any potential obstacles.

What outfit and equipment to wear for enduro or downhill?

Be it enduro or DH which take place mostly if not exclusively in descent you will not use the same kind of equipment and clothing as in cross-country. You need more protection and a suitable outfit, most of the time long sleeved, to tackle your run safely.

Jersey

long sleeved with a multi-panel construction, the downhill jersey is both breathable to wick away moisture well and robust in case of a fall. With original designs and flashy colours, it is an essential part of your style, maybe it will give you more courage before dropping in the steep!

Under-shorts

perfect under pants or shorts, they are more comfortable than underwear. Featuring a thick layer to spend long hours in the saddle without any soreness while being breathable to keep you fresh.

Shorts

for a casual style with a maximum of comfort, MTB shorts are a must-have! Light, breathable and durable, they can be worn for long hours without feeling uncomfortable. Some even offer pockets to keep your small belongings close, like a smartphone or keys.

Pants

getting trendier and trendier in downhill to the detriment of shorts, MTB pants offer more protection while being more aerodynamic. They are thick and robust to prevent falls while offering a great freedom of movement.

What to wear in winter?

Welcome in winter, the season of cold, mud and early nights. But as the old saying goes: “There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing”. So, for next winter pick the proper gear.

Beanie

A great deal of heat loss happens through the head, it is therefore critical to critical to protect it from the cold. To cover your ears well, you can opt for a thin beanie (so that it fits under the helmet), a headband or a neck warmer pulled all the way up.

Neck warmer

Just like for the rest of the face you can cover your neck with a neck warmer or a balaclava, some models have an aeration zone at the mouth.

Base layer

Essential for the colder days, base layers serve as a first layer by being close fitting. Made from a material prone to wick moisture away and give warmth they are your best companion this winter.

Jersey

Long-sleeved it acts as a second layer retaining the maximum of heat. Breathable and warm it can be worn with nothing above when the weather allows. It also features pockets and reflective elements.

Jacket

Ideal to battle the elements, the MTB winter jacket is designed with technical materials to keep you warm while being the lightest possible. It needs to be breathable too, to avoid being wet from sweat and get cold after the first time you have pushed hard.

Gloves

Gloves are unavoidable both for summer and winter, but winter gloves are naturally warmer with fleece lining and good insulation. For wet weathers you can choose neoprene gloves which constitute a shield from wind and humidity.

Bottoms

Preferably long to avoid getting cold legs, after all they are your motor and require good care. We recommend a robust pair of pants to resist in the branches. Water repellent to stay dry under light rains. If it is really cold, you can combine them with under-shorts and thermal underwear.

Overshoes

Feet are among the body parts where the cold is quickly felt. To keep comfortable, you can choose an overshoe made from an insulating material that covers completely your shoe and offers you a sensation of warmth. Thanks to a zipper at the back, they are easy to put on. Some models even feature a Gore-Tex membrane for rainy conditions.
