Fischer Speedmax skis: a unique manufacturing process

Classic or skating, Fischer invests all its resources in the manufacturing process of these very high-end skis. The first version of the Speedmax, which lasted up to 2019 with only minor changes, offered a brand new concept regarding the assembly of the base, dubbed Called Base Bonding. This method relies on a simple principle: respecting the molecular integrity of the base during assembly. To do so, Fischer found a way to cold glue the base instead of hot. It preserves the molecular linearity of the base structure. The effect on snow is significant, the skis are more versatile when it comes to sudden changes in the snow.

Ever since, this technology has been used on the Carbonlite and RCS models since 2019. To push performance even further, Fischer found a way to press the ski with very thin bases that can be cold waxed on the sidewalls. This may sound like a gimmick but actually prevents snow from sticking on the sidewalls and guarantees better glide in the tracks or on soft snow.

Recognised as the ski with the most medals in recent cross-country skiing, biathlon or Nordic combined, Fischer has demonstrated its ability to innovate and win in Nordic skiing.

Fischer Speedmax boots: a revolution in their own rights

During many years, Fischer played second fiddle when it comes to ski boots, both for elite athletes and recreational skiers. The Speedmax Classic was first spotted at the Falun Nordic skiing World Championships (Sweden) and clearly helped put Fischer on the map among other great manufacturers of cross-country ski boots. A more precise last, new upper, lighter, more dynamic and better control, here’s what the Speedmax Classic boot range brought to the table.

Launched a few months before the 2015/2016 Tour de Ski, the Speedmax Skate once again put stars on skiers’ eyes. Same manufacturing principle as the Classic model regarding the chassis, but a stiffer outsole for the needs of skating, and especially a very snug carbon cuff with a Velcro strap that remains unnoticed.

The latest iterations of these models brought Turnamic soles, thinner, they guarantee a more direct power transfer and better sensations. The gaiters have been redesigned, stretch, they offer a great fit around the foot and lower leg.

The Fischer Speedmax range is now a great success because of its performance and Fischer’s ability to reinvent its products.

Focus on the Speedmax 3D Skate Plus ski

The Speedmax 3D Skate Plus stands out for being developed in collaboration with Fischer's top international athletes. As a result of this partnership, this model is simply presented as the fastest on the market, pushing the limits of speed on snow.

  • The ski features a technology called Air Core HM Carbon, combining lightness and stiffness, with a core composed of over 80% air and high modulus carbon fibers.
  • Another innovation is the Gliding Sidewall technology, which adds a thin layer of polyethylene to the ski's sidewalls. This reduces friction and optimizes gliding, even in soft snow.
  • The Speedmax 3D Skate Plus is also features Cold Base Bonding technology, enhancing wax absorption to optimize speed.

Speedmax Classic: for purists

The Speedmax Classic is designed for classic skiing, as its name suggests. It is known for its exceptionally light weight, being one of the lightest on the market. This feature helps preserve energy over long distances.

It is distinguished by its carbon chassis and two-part base, designed to optimise performance for racing. The Race Code label certifies its quality in international competitions.

Fischer's significant innovation in this race ski is the addition of 3D base technology on the edges for better gliding, combined with a classic 902 camber for more direct propulsion.

Everything about the Speedmax Helium

The Speedmax Helium marks a major step up in the Fischer Speedmax range. Designed for optimal performance, it stands out for its revolutionary lightness, weighing only 950 g for a length of 186 cm. This weight reduction is made possible by the innovative Bidirectional Air Core, which also provides excellent stability.

The Speedmax Helium also features the World Cup Tip, a shorter tip that ensures better ski return and increased stability during gliding phases. The ski is optimised for -10 °C and warmer conditions.

The Helium Shield is another major asset of this ski. It's a coating technology that reduces the ski's weight while maximizing its agility.

Additionally, this ski comes in various versions, including Stiff and Medium, to meet the specific needs of each skier based on their technique and performance level.

Choosing your Speedmax Skating ski size

To choose the size of your Speedmax skating skis, several criteria must be considered. Firstly, your weight is a decisive factor. Indeed, a heavier skier will need longer skis for better weight distribution and, therefore, better gliding. Secondly, your skill level also influences the choice of size. If you are a beginner skier, opt for slightly shorter skis for better manoeuvrability.
