The history of the Burton Custom starts in 1996
The Burton Custom is the most iconic model from the American brand, and most certainly the most famous board ever created. Initially launched in 1995/1996, it took the snowboarding world by storm. You can safely say it’s also the best selling freestyle board in the world. The Burton Custom snowboard never ceases to evolve, benefiting from technological innovations and being available with various camber and flex profiles.

Burton Custom
The Burton Custom is the original model upon which the others are based. If has a directional twin shape, with the same width at the nose and tail but with a slightly setback foot stance for better versatility and turning control. It relies on a Superfly II 700G wood core for lightness and strength, as well as a well-balanced flex between power and playfulness. Its traditional camber guarantees responsive pop and good stability. A real treat for all-mountain freestyle.
Burton Custom Flying V
The Burton Custom Flying V is based on the construction of the Burton Custom but has a Flying V camber profile, which provides different sensations and capabilities. Where traditional camber is characterised by its grip and pop, the Flying V camber offers lighter edging and floatability. It makes the board more playful on every terrain, less radical and improves the floatability on powder. An option for less advanced snowboarders or those preferring playful boards.
Burton Custom X
The Burton Custom X is a boosted version of the Burton Custom. It benefits from a more powerful and stiffer construction, with a Dragonfly 600G wood core and carbon reinforcements that make it the most aggressive snowboard in Burton’s range. While its shape is perfectly similar to the Burton Custom, the board offers even more stability and grip. Ideal for riders seeking power and commitment.
Burton Custom X Flying V
In the same fashion as the Custom and Custom Flying V, here’s the Flying V camber version of the Custom X. Once again, this hybrid camber, that combines rocker and traditional camber sections, will be more forgiving and float better on powder. A matter of preference and riding style. If you’re planning on riding a lot of pow, this might be an interesting option.
Burton Custom Smalls
To make sure kids are not left hanging, Burton offers its iconic Custom in a kids’ version: the Custom Smalls. This snowboard for kids is slightly different to the versions for grownups. This one is a full twin-tip, perfectly symmetrical with a perfectly centred foot stance. You still find the traditional camber, softened by rockers on the tips, for easier edge transitions. This board offers an option to young snowboarders who’ve already the basics down and are looking to progress on the slopes and in freestyle.
Which Snowboard Should You Choose for Carving?
Without a doubt, the Custom X is the snowboard to choose for carving on groomed runs. The Custom Flying V and Custom X Flying V are more versatile, featuring a W Rocker camber that offers less performance for carving on hard-packed snow. The Custom also delivers excellent carving performance but with slightly less edge grip compared to the Custom X.
