Burton Process

Burton is a well-known and hugely popular brand in the world of snowboarding. Its range includes numerous models such as the Burton Process, the Process Flying V and the Mystery Process. The first two are boards available from intermediate/advanced level upwards, but they can also delight experienced snowboarders. Proof of that, the Burton Process is the preferred board of pro rider Mark McMorris. Burton Process, Process Flying V and Mystery Process boards

Flagship models from the American brand, the Burton Process, its little sister the Process Flying V and the premium Mystery Process stand out for their versatility. Capable of performing on many types of terrain and across a wide range of snow conditions, they cover two disciplines: the Process and Flying V versions, aimed at freestyle, remain accessible from intermediate level upwards; the Mystery Process, with more of a freeride focus, is intended for advanced and expert riders.

Flex, camber and features of these snowboards

The three boards share a common foundation; the main differences lie in the camber profile and construction. The Process features a PurePop Camber profile combining traditional camber and double rocker, with subtle flat sections between the two to boost pop.

The Process Flying V benefits, as its name suggests, from a Flying V profile: a sequence of rocker and camber sections. This profile is more forgiving, while still delivering good edge hold thanks to the camber zones under the feet.

The Mystery Process takes the PurePop Camber profile of the Process but steps up to the high-end Mystery construction: Dragonfly II 500G core, Burton’s lightest, with integrated carbon laminates, Mystery Glass fibre in the carbon lay-up and Multizone EGD reinforcement in impact zones. Lighter and more responsive, with a slightly stiffer flex, it puts performance first for seasoned riders.

All three versions are twin tip boards, meaning their shape is symmetrical from nose to tail. They can therefore be ridden equally well switch and regular, opening up maximum possibilities for landing and throwing tricks in both directions.

In terms of construction, the Process and Process Flying V rely on triax fibreglass and a Super Fly II 700G core, which provide a consistent flex, rebound and pop, whereas the Mystery Process moves upmarket with its carbon construction. On all three, the Frostbite Edges provide a decisive edge bite, even on hardpack, and the The Channel system allows for precise stance adjustment.

The Process (PurePop Camber) is the versatile freestyle choice with the best value for money. The Flying V is more forgiving and masks mistakes better. The Mystery Process, with a stronger freeride bias and reserved for advanced/expert riders, is the premium version: lighter, more responsive and with a stiffer flex.

Is the Burton Process suitable for beginners?

It is aimed more at intermediate riders progressing towards expert level. A complete beginner will be more comfortable on the Flying V version, which is more forgiving. The Mystery Process, on the other hand, is intended for riders who are already advanced.
