Splitboard
Splitboarding, a rebirth of snowboarding?
Once rejected by skiers and then adored in the 2000s, snowboarding has transcended sliding on snow but has always known a limit: the inability to move on flat or uphill terrain. Not to mention the ingenuity of snowboarders, who were inspired by ski touring to develop splitboarding, which is now well represented on the shelves of snowboarding specialists. Snowboarders in need of adventure will therefore find at Glisshop all the equipment they need for snowboard touring!

The splitboard, the ideal tool to survey the mountain?
If the skier has long been able to access the untapped slopes of the mountain, the brave and valiant snowboarder has long had to make do with the often overloaded and sometimes monotonous ski area. It was then that splitboarding appeared, a human creation with magical properties that allowed the snowboarder explorer to also go on hikes. By splitting his snowboard in two parts (or in three, depending on the model), then resolidifying it into a solid block, the snowboarder can finally make ascents and descents on the same board, unique and faithful horse.
If history has remembered that the Montgolfier brothers invented the hot air balloon and that the first time machine to go back in time was a DeLorean, some research on the internet tells us that the origins of the splitboard are not so clearly defined.
Just like the invention of snowboarding, the paternity of splitboarding is also a matter of debate. While legend has it that in the 80's the Germans already started to split their boards in two parts, the prehistory of splitboard seems to start in 1991 with a certain Brett "Kowboy" Kobernik. At rest following a snowboard injury, Kobernik has time to kill. Following the idea of a friend, he starts to cut a snowboard in his garage and resolidarize it using different hooking systems combined with rubber bands. Once recovered from his injury, the avalanche forecaster begins to survey the mountains of Utah with his prototype.

Three years later in 1994, he was introduced to Mark Wariakos, owner of a small brand of touring skis and telemark equipment called Voile. Together, they developed and marketed a Voile Split DIY kit that allows any snowboarder equipped with a brain and a workshop to roll up their sleeves and convert their board into a splitboard. But rolling up the sleeves of a plaid shirt is not easy and the world of snowboarding is not yet ready. Carpeted in the shadows, the splitboard is biding its time and brands like Spark R & D and Karakoram are developing more and more efficient splitboard bindings.
The trigger came about fifteen years later thanks to big names like Jeremy Jones and Xavier De le Rue, who unveiled in their films freeride sections reached not by helicopter but by splitboard. The common snowboarder discovers that splitboarding can give him access to new horizons and the discipline finally takes off. Today, the brands offering splitboards are legion and the equipment is more and more adapted. From the board to the bindings through specific sealskins and splitboard knives, Glisshop remains on the lookout for the latest innovations to offer you the best splitboard equipment.
