Caps & Hats
Buyer’s guide for a stylish cap
Caps are a popular piece of clothing since the 19th century. Sportsmen have always been wearing some no matter the sport. Caps are lightweight, comfortable to wear and easily adjustable to any head shape. They protect from the sun and its UV rays, they avoid glare and take your style up a notch!
How to pick a shape of hat?
On top of being extremely useful, caps are also a piece of fashion. From the traditional baseball cap to the ascot, through the beret or the cadet cap, there is one for every style. The most popular cap shape remains the ‘american cap’ which can be found in three variations: the fitted cap which is not adjustable so make sure you pick the right size, the snapback or strapback which is adjustable with a strap at the back of the head, and the notorious baseball cap which is sometimes called trucker when there is a net making the rear half of the cap. Whichever you pick, caps are always a great option to look good and protect yourself from the sun.
What is the best cap brand?
In fairness, it’s hard to say that a brand is better than another. Most of them make caps that stick to their style and convey their message. New Era, for instance, makes caps since 1920, almost a century. Needless to say they know what they’re doing. New Era makes the official caps of all major baseball teams from the US. Their most popular model is the 59fifty, a stiff cap with a flat visor that you can bend if you like. To make sure you get the right size, measure your head circumference cause the 59Fifty is not adjustable. The 59Fifty comes in sizes ranging from 54.9cm up to 65.4cm. New Era also has the 39Thirty with a bent visor or the 9Fifty which is similar to a 59Fifty but with a snapback system. New Era’s know-how is so popular that other brands use them to design their hats. DC for example and their DC Coverage cap is a 59Fifty with DC graphics on it. You can also go for a Oakley cap if you prefer that brand. Their High Crown 2.0 visor features a sweatband to avoid sweat stains, a visor to keep the sun away and no top to maximise venting. Of course, they also make traditional caps, light and comfortable. So does Nike by the way. The legendary brand utilises a new technology called Dri-FIT, enhancing moisture wicking and allowing you to keep your hat dry longer even when it’s hot outside. Make sure your head is covered with a cap before summer gets here!
