Buyer’s guide for kids ski jacket
It doesn’t matter if your kid skies or snowboards, as long as he’s out on the slopes, he needs a jacket. Jackets help keeping little champs warm and dry so if his old jacket does not repel water anymore, think of changing it, your kid will thank you. Our experts carefully chose the products we sell to make sure your kids are well protected during winter.
Are ski jackets waterproof?
Of course they are! Manufacturers tend to use their technologies for all of their products. Men, women, junior. All lines feature high-end membranes and breathable fabrics. Because both are very important in the mountain. A breathable jacket will help wicking the moisture away and keep your skin as dry as possible, but it will also block water and snow outside. It is the case of the Gore Tex membrane for example. This micro-perforated membrane lets wet and hot air go through but the tiny holes are too small for water molecules to get inside. Complete the equipment with a fleece top and thermal underwear and you know your kid will never be cold again.
What are the latest innovations in the jacket industry?
Picture brought a small revolution with their ‘Grow with me’ technology. The smart construction allows the jacket to grow with your kid. How? Just cut the yarns that are supposed to be cut when the sleeves get too short. Easy and effective. It makes the jacket a lot more durable and creates less waste. In other words, it is more eco-friendly which is and has always been the brand’s motto. We also like the powder skirt or gaiter. There is nothing worse than falling into deep powder and having snow everywhere under the jacket. Powder skirts help avoiding this brilliantly. But there dozens of other features. Goggle pockets, liftpass pockets, goggle wipe and the list goes on.
What does your kid need to wear under his jacket?
Some jackets come with a fleece lining but it isn’t warm enough to be worn on its own. If you want your mini rider to feel warm, he needs thermic layers under the jacket. A midlayer made of a fleece top is a good start as it will help to keep the heat inside. Couple it with thermal underwear enhancing moisture and persperation wicking and you get a good shield for winter. But this can be adjusted in case the sun shines bright in the sky and it’s warm. The main goal is to sweat as little as possible. Help your kid adjust!
