Buyer’s guide for Classic Nordic ski bindings for adults

Purchasing a binding for your pair of classic cross-country skis should not be done haphazardly. You'll need to think carefully so that you choose the best binding for your level of experience. Whether you're looking for bindings for your first attempt at cross-country skiing or whether you're after a pair of racing skis, Glisshop has nearly 20 pairs of bindings to suit everyone.

What does a classic Nordic ski binding do?

The binding is what connects your feet to your skis. The binding on the classic is much more flexible to allow greater axial support. It attaches the boot to the tip of the foot, allowing the heel to move freely, a crucial movement in Nordic skiing.

Which classic binding is best for my cross-country skiing?

There's a binding for every level and some are more effective for different snow conditions. To make the right choice, think carefully about your level and your reasons for wanting to ski. You should also have a look at the skis that you've chosen. Indeed, it's not a good idea to put a top-of-the-range carbon binding on cross-country skis that you intend to use for leisure, and vice versa. Some bindings offer more comfort and safety while others provide a more efficient transfer of energy and better accuracy.

Compatibility between classic bindings and Nordic ski boots.

In cross-country skiing, there are several boot norms. Some are compatible and some are not. So you don't make a mistake, make sure you clarify which norm is compatible with your boots. If you're not sure, have a look on the sole and see if there are one or two bindings.

- If there's only one, you'll ski using the NNN or Prolink norm. Your boots will be compatible with bindings of the same norm. This includes the brands Rossignol, Fischer, Alfa, Salomon Prolink and Atomic Prolink.

- If there are two clips, then your boots will only be compatible with the SNS pilot norm. Be careful when choosing your binding.
