Description

Homage to the famous forests and snowy domains of the Japanese island of HokkaidÅ, the Borealis Koi is a directional board designed to have fun in deep snow or, failing peuf, carve with style on piste. It takes its name from the Japanese koi, a colorful fish symbolizing courage and strength. In 2018, this model was voted "2018 Board of the Year" by ACT Snowboarding magazine.

What's in it for the Borealis Koi snowboard?

A pure directional board with flowing lines and a clean design, the Koi features a voluminous nose with a generous rocker, which continues into a classic camber and ends in a small swallow tail. Combined with a set-back foot position, this shape is frighteningly efficient on all types of snow, for those who like to engage in curves and draw beautiful lines. Combined with a flex that's toned without being too stiff, with more tension on the tail thanks to extra reinforcements, the Koi will offer good edge hold and stability at high speeds, and will link curves with remarkable agility on all terrains.

Who is the Borealis Koi snowboard for?

We recommend the Koi to intermediate to very advanced snowboarders, who want a board that's fun to ride, allowing them to express their style by tracing beautiful lines on all types of snow.

Tips and advice

The length of your board is extremely important. Several parameters have to be taken into account : Your height, your weight, your level and your program (allmountain-freeride-freestyle). We created a calculator that will tell you what size of board would suit you best, once you've completed these parameters. You can also call us (+33 4 73 26 98 47) to get a personal advice from our experienced team.
The snowboards you'll purchase on our website are all factory waxed and tuned. That means it's ready to hit the slopes. However, that doesn't work forever, and in order to keep your equipment at the top performance, you need to maintain base and edges on a regular basis.
Maintaining your skis is essential to ensure an optimal glide and grip. Frequency of maintenance may vary depending on how often you use your board, or on how damaged it is. We recommend that you wax it every 10 riding days, and at the end of the season. Edges need to be tuned up to 2 times per season if you want to keep a good edge control. However, don't get them overtuned because every tuning takes some of the steel off.

When your base is damaged and shows shallow scratches or rock gouge, it is possible to repair it.

You can get these repairs done by professional ski shop, or if the gouge is only superficial you may repair it yourself. To do so, you will need special tools and materials such as wax, Ptex for repairing bases, edge tuners, etc. You can find them on our website.
