Ski helmet buying guide
Do you want to buy a ski or snowboard helmet?
This buying guide will help you choose the right equipment for your needs. Whether you're looking for a leisure ski helmet or a FIS ski helmet for competition, you're bound to find what you're looking for.
Why wear a ski helmet?
If the hat was the essential accessory on the slopes in the 80s when there were still few people on the slopes, it's quite a different story today. In order to ski safely, it is now highly recommended to wear a real protection for your head. First of all to prevent an untimely fall on a sheet of ice or a small unwelcome edge fault, but above all to protect yourself from collisions which are more and more frequent in the resort. So don't hesitate, once you have chosen your winter sports clothing and ski mask, take a little time to find the helmet for man, woman or child that you need and start practising snow sports in complete safety.
How to choose the size of a ski helmet?
To choose the right size, you can easily measure your head circumference using a tape measure. Depending on the level of finish, some brands even offer ski helmet with adjustable fit with adjustment wheels that allow you to adjust the interior volume with precision.
What should I check when buying a snowboard helmet?
All the helmets sold comply with the European standards (CE-EN 1077) which guarantee optimal resistance in the event of an impact. The top-of-the-range In Mold ski helmet versions are often lighter (for the same level of protection), thanks to innovative materials and latest generation technologies such as the MIPS ski helmets, which have a formidable anti-shock system. This is an important element of comfort, in fact, a light helmet knows how to make you forget yourself! You can also opt for a ski helmet with chin guard if you like speed and strong sensations. Ventilation is also a crucial point for ski touring or ski mountaineering enthusiasts who produce a lot of energy on the way up and need the most efficient cooling possible. Some alpine models will even have a ski helmet with an audio system that will allow you to hurtle down the slopes to your favourite music, as well as adjustable ventilation that allows you to adjust the air flow according to the ambient temperature. You'll even find ski helmets with an audio system that lets you race down the slopes to your favourite music, as well as detachable lined ski helmets that make it easy to wash at the end of the season, as well as photochromic lenses.
Then, when it comes to looks, there's something for everyone: matt or glossy material, visor, colours to match ski boots or patterns, fleece lining or feminine details, choose the one that will go best with your clothes.
When to choose a helmet with visor?
More and more popular, this winter sports accessory is invading the slopes more and more thanks to its sporty look. The articulated visor can be raised and lowered very easily, unlike a classic mask which always tends to slip. At Glisshop you will be spoilt for choice with more than 100 models available in our ski helmet with visor section.
Which brands of ski helmet should I choose?
At Glisshop we offer you the maximum choice so that you can find the design and technical features you want for your helmet. You will be able to choose from a wide range of brands such as: Anon, Atomic, Bern, Bliz, Bollé, Briko, Cairn, Casco, Cébé, Dainese, Diezz, Giro, Julbo, K2, Marker, Oakley, Picture, Poc, Rossignol, Roxy, Salomon, Scott, Smith, Uvex.. With more than 500 helmets on sale throughout the year you can only find what you are looking for at Glisshop!
How long does a ski helmet last?
Like all PPE (PPE = Personal Protective Equipment), the standard indicates that it is necessary to renew your equipment every 5 years in order to maintain optimum resistance in the event of impact. Changes in temperature, air oxidation and above all ultra-violet radiation constantly attack plastics and all other materials and end up making them brittle.
And if you want to know even more about ski helmets and all the possible and imaginable options don't hesitate to consult our tutorial How to choose your ski helmet?
