Poc helmets are everywhere on the slopes and on the roads, they managed to seduce the mass market with their sleek design and groundbreaking technologies. Poc's mission is to save lives and reduce the consequences of accidents, whether you're skiing, cycling or practicing any sport involving risks. With this in mind, the brand has designed number of helmets featuring innovative technologies and high-quality constructions to ensure optimal safety. You'll find below a quick guide through Poc helmet's technologies to help you find out which helmet is best suited for your needs.
Construction of Poc ski helmets
You will hardly find a low-end helmet in Poc's lineup. The brand makes no compromises when it comes to choosing the best materials or using the best technologies. If safety is involved, users deserve the best. With this in mind, Poc developed 5 different constructions for their helmets, each suited for a different use.
Aramid In-Mold construction
Traditional In-mold constructions are very light and allow for thinner profiles. However, high energy impacts can penetrate the helmet easier due to the thin shell covering it. The idea with the Aramid In Mold is to add aramid (a strong and light material) to the helmet construction. This maximises strength, it makes the shell tougher without compromising lightweight.
Aramid Bridges
The Aramid bridges technology helps reinforcing the helmet structure by distributing impact energy on a larger surface. The combination of super strong aramid with the EPS liner increases the helmet's durability and resistance without weighing it down. Helmets with Aramid Bridges often offer optimal venting.
Ventilated Double shell Anti Penetration (VDSAP)
This groundbreaking technology comes from a simple idea that was worked and refined to offer unparalleled performance. Ski helmets featuring the VDSAP have basically a shell on top of another shell. These two shells are slightly offset which offers added protection on high energy impacts from sharp objects like rocks.
Multidirectional Impact protection system (MIPS)
If you've been browsing the internet gathering information about ski helmets, you have probably heard about the MIPS technology already. This tech is used by Poc among other brands, in order to reduce stress and forces applied on the brain during oblique impacts. There is a thin low friction layer between shell and lining, allowing the shell to slightly move around the lining (and head) which reduces rotational forces and risks of injuries.
Super ventilated helmets
If you are used to wearing ski helmets, you know how important it is to have a well working ventilation system. Poc's designers studied air flows in ski helmets to maximise their venting system and make them adjustable. Plus, more air means less weight and same protection level. This is the magic of Poc.
Multi-impact performance
Traditional helmets feature EPS liners (expanded polystyrene). It is a great material with high impact-absorption properties. However, every time this material is subject to an impact, it gets compressed and loses a bit of its properties. Poc is using multi-impact EPP liners (expanded polypropylene) to offer the same amount of protection with with added durability.
Multi Impact deflector panel
Last but not least, Poc's multi impact deflector panel is the favourite technology of racers and slalom skiers. If you're one of them, you have probably noticed your ski helmet was getting worn out super fast due to the several impacts caused by the gates. By integrating a deflector panel to the shell, the repeated impacts of slalom gates don't do as much damage to the helmet. It remains efficient and still delivers the highest protection level when you actually fall. You'll find this technology on the notorious Skull Orbic Comp helmet.
