Asics

"Anima Sana In Corpore Sano" (a healthy mind and body), here is the origin of ASICS’ name. The company was established in 1949 by Kihachuro Onitsuka upon returning from the war. Initially called ONITSUKA Shokai then ONITSUKA Co., Ltd., the name ASICS and the Latin proverb was suggested to M. Onitsuka by an old war buddy. An inspiration that fuelled his drive to manufacture athletic shoes for young healthy women and men thanks to physical activity. Asics played a role in the rise of the sport footwear industry by designing a basketball shoe in 1950, a marathon shoe in 1953 and by developing the use of nylon in 1954 and keeping on innovating year after year for the well-being and performance of athletes.
