Back in the 1800’s, we used reindeer skins under the skis. Then in the 1900’s, it was tar that enhanced skis performance and soon after the Finnish champion Eetu Niska started manufacturing waxes. He’s the one who created the famous Salaisuus wax before taking the Tolsa brothers, Aulis and Valto, under his wing. In 1934, the elder launched his wax company in Kotha but the production was soon interrupted by the war. In 1951, it was Aulis' turn to found his company in Jyvaskyla. Holding the secrets of the Salaisuus wax developed by Niska, he quickly became the new master. Vauhti was born! It was a sheer success and the company moved to larger premises in Harjavatta in 1969. Aki Karvonen, ski champion and general manager of the Future clothing brand took over in 1991, moving the company once again, in Kopravaara, and buying the MC brand in order to use their knowledge of fluor. In 2002, Vauhti is the very first brand to offer a liquid wax that enhances the grip. The company then passed into the hands of Mika Matikainen and Martti Uusitalo but it is still a 100% Finnish brand. Since 2016, the brand started a close partnership with Fischer.
