Mammut Helmets for Men and Women

Selecting the right Mammut helmet depends on several key criteria. First, consider your discipline. If you’re climbing, models such as the Mammut Skywalker or Crag Sender are excellent choices thanks to their lightweight design and optimal protection.

Next, size and gender can also influence your decision. Mammut offers helmets for men and women, with adjustable fits for maximum comfort.

Finally, Mammut also incorporates environmental considerations, as some helmets are Fair Wear, Recycled or bluesign® PRODUCT certified, reflecting the brand’s commitment to sustainable development.

Our Review of the Mammut Skywalker 3.0

The Skywalker 3.0 from Mammut is designed to deliver reliable protection on rock faces and in alpine environments. It features a hybrid construction combining a durable ABS shell with internal layers of EPP and EPS foam for optimal shock absorption from all angles.

With soft padding and a precise adjustment dial, it offers quick fitting and secure support. Environmentally designed, it includes recycled EPS foam and comes with a handy transport bag.

  • Hybrid structure: ABS shell, EPP and EPS foam
  • Full padding for enhanced comfort
  • Wide adjustment range (53–61 cm) via dial system
  • Large ventilation openings and compact chin strap system

This helmet is particularly suitable for climbing, mountaineering and for via ferrata.

Mammut MIPS: Innovation and Safety

MIPS (Multi-Directional Impact Protection System) is a major innovation featured in select Mammut helmets. This technology is designed to reduce rotational forces that act on the brain during oblique impacts.

With a low-friction layer inside the helmet, the MIPS system allows for multi-directional movement of 10–15 mm during certain impacts, thereby reducing the rotational force transmitted to the head.

The effectiveness of this technology is supported by extensive studies and research, making MIPS a valuable asset in preventing head trauma—especially in high-risk sports and outdoor activities.

Here are some of the key benefits of the MIPS system:

  • Reduction of rotational forces acting on the brain
  • Optimal protection against multi-directional impacts
  • Improved comfort and fit thanks to the integrated liner

The Best Mammut Helmets Designed for Mountaineering

Skywalker3.0

Mammut offers several models tailored to the demands of mountaineering, combining safety, comfort and resistance to extreme conditions. The Skywalker 3.0, for example, features hybrid construction (ABS, EPP and EPS) to provide excellent protection from side, front and rear impacts. Key features include full padding, excellent ventilation, and a quick adjustment system via dial. This versatile, reliable and comfortable helmet remains lightweight and allows for the attachment of a head torch.

Crag Sender

Meanwhile, the Crag Sender uses an In-Mold construction with EPS foam and Kevlar reinforcements in key areas, providing extended protection while maintaining an ultra-lightweight profile. With optimised ventilation and a head torch attachment system, it’s the ideal companion for long outings.

  • Skywalker 3.0: Hybrid construction, large vents, comfortable padding, head torch attachment, precise adjustment
  • Crag Sender: In-Mold construction with Kevlar reinforcements, ultra-lightweight, wide coverage, efficient ventilation, headlamp compatible

What is the Lifespan of a Helmet?

Regular maintenance of your Mammut helmet is essential for maintaining its protective effectiveness and extending its lifespan. It is recommended to clean the helmet with lukewarm water, a soft cloth and mild soap if necessary, then rinse thoroughly and air-dry away from direct sunlight.

It’s also important to note that the lifespan of a helmet can be affected by impacts or drops. If you hit the wall, a rock falls on it, or your helmet hits the ground, it’s best to check for cracks. If in doubt, we recommend replacing it to ensure your safety is never compromised.
