Climbing Harnesses and Kids’ Harnesses

Children’s harnesses are equipped with sturdy adjustment buckles and easy-to-use sizing systems with adjustable waist loops, making them intuitive for both parents and young climbers. They feature lightweight, durable materials that allow for maximum freedom of movement.

Among the products in the Momentum range, you’ll find the Kid’s Momentum Kingfisher, an ideal model for young climbers. It features trakFIT™ adjustment for a precise fit around the leg loops. It also includes breathable, comfortable foam in the center of the waistbelt, and its featherweight 240g won’t be noticed during long climbing sessions.

The Petzl Ouistiti is a full-body harness designed for children under 30 kg. Thanks to its wrap-around design and well-positioned tie-in points, it offers maximum stability and easy adjustment—perfect for beginners.

For older kids, the Petzl Macchu offers an adjustable harness with leg loops and a waistbelt designed to accommodate growth. This model is suitable for a variety of activities, from indoor sessions to outdoor adventures.

The Edelrid Fraggle III is a full-body harness designed for kids, providing all-around support with adjustments at the shoulders and legs. Ideal for beginners, it places the tie-in point higher for easier assistance and includes a rear loop that helps you assist your child effectively. Comfortable and adaptable, it grows with your child thanks to its sliding tie-in point. Made with Bluesign-certified materials, it’s lightweight, padded, and durable.

The Camp Energy Jr climbing harness is designed to offer kids the same level of performance as adult models. It features thermoformed waist and leg loops for optimal fit and superior comfort. Fully adjustable, it comes with two gear loops and a chalk bag loop, making it easy for young climbers to carry their quickdraws and chalk bag.

What’s the difference between a harness and a climbing harness?

A harness is a general term for any equipment designed to secure a person by distributing forces across multiple attachment points, covering both full-body harnesses (encompassing the torso and legs) and climbing harnesses. A climbing harness, on the other hand, is a specific type of harness worn only around the waist and legs. Full-body harnesses are often used for children or in situations where extra safety is required, while climbing harnesses are more common among adult and experienced climbers.

At what age can your child start climbing?

Climbing can be introduced as early as 3 to 4 years old, depending on your child’s development. At this age, the focus is on fun indoor activities tailored to their size and abilities. Between 6 and 7 years old, children generally start more technical sessions, learning the basics of safety and independence. It’s important to use appropriate gear, such as full-body harnesses for younger kids, to ensure their safety.
